Topic: Vanquish GPU question Posted: 11 Jan 2014 at 6:11pm |
So, I'm thinking about picking up the level 3 vanquish, and I had a quick question. From what I understand, DS uses a reference card in the Vanquish. How are the temperatures of the GTX 760 under stress? How's the airflow in the case? I'm just not sure what to expect since I'm moving away from using laptops, and mine ran ridiculously hot all of the time.

We use both reference and non-reference cards depending on what we have in stock. Temperatures can vary depending on ambient temps and the version of the card used. Airflow is not an issue it will definitely run cooler than a laptop. |

Gotcha. My laptop had a 660m in it, and it was consistently north of 95c. Had it repasted, and it still ran at those temps. Thanks for the reply

Yeah, don't worry, the Vanquish will be far, far cooler than your laptop. Possibly even more quiet. Some laptops can be screamers.

Probably going to order this tomorrow, and just wanted to ask one more question. Can anyone recommend a quiet fan that I can add to my case? I want to add one on the side panel right over the gpu. I've been a laptop guy for too long, still paranoid. Haha On the other hand, would this have a negative effect on the airflow in the case?

I have mounted 2 Nexus d12sl fans to a side panel and highly recommend them. Quiet and easy to mount and hookup to either mobo or to psu peripheral power plug in the harness.
Corsair sp120 Quiet series have great reviews. Lots to pick from. I suggest downloading the free HWMONITOR and run it while stressing the rig. It checks cpu cores and gpu temps. If all stays in the 60s and 70s then your good to go. Good luck. |

I just got a vanquish 3 with a standard referenced 760. It stays cool while gaming. I've been monitoring the temps for the cpu and gpu and all been great so far. I've mostly seen the gpu cap at around 75 and the cpu is about 48ish. Also with the gtx 760, I have the EVGA card and you download there presicion tool for the video card. You can even set a temperature target, such at 70 or something it will throttle back the card slightly if needed to keep it at that lower temp.
But overall you don't have to worry about cooling at all the way DS gives you the comp and you can probably make it better if you add in extra fans. |

That's good to know. Thanks for the info. Also, did the assassin's creed come as a steam download code?

The Assassin's Creed code is for Uplay, it should be on a little piece of paper with your owner's binder.

So, my vanquish just came in today. I was just wondering if someone would be able to help me out with something. I bought an asus monitor that has built in speakers, so I set it as the default device to run sound through. Now, whenever I plug in a pair of headphones, the sound still come out of the speakers. Does anyone have a fix for this? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been exclusively using laptops for about 6 years now, so I never really had monitor compatibility issues to deal with.

Never mind guys, figured it out. In other new, I'm happy to see that my vanquish came with a modular psu instead of the standard one that it was advertised with.

I know this is the wrong place, but I didn't think I should make a new thread for this. I just attempted to use my redemption codes for assassin's creed black flag and splinter cell, and they aren't working at all. I 'll add the promo code, but the subtotal won't go down. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?I'll try again in a bit, this always happens to me with uplay.

I'm going to wait it out. I've had the uplay site do this to me before, and it has always worked out fine. |

Just tried the code again, and this time I received one for splinter cell too. Both of them worked with uplay. Never fails. Can't wait to actually put in some more time actually playing on this guy, I'm basically just transferring my steam account over and downloading the free games. After some actual time with it, I'll put up a review. Pictures are good to go.

So, I've been really enjoying my Vanquish so far, but I just had a small question. My rear outtake fan wobbles a bit when it spins, and I was wondering if this is anything I need to worry about? The frame of the fan itself is solid, but the blade is the part that is wobbling. Is there a way to fix this?

If the fan isn't making any noise, then its probably good to go.
You could try pressing it in the middle from front and back and see if it reseats and squares itself. It presses into the motor, usually. But, you could also break it if not careful. I would try it myself, but up to you. From the words of Dirty Harry, " Are you feeling lucky". |

Went to make the fix you suggested yesterday, but it turns out that the mold of the plastic is just slightly off. So, really it just looks like there's an issue where there isn't one.

So, just a quick update and questions about temps and stuff. Just curious if these number seem normal to everyone. The max numbers are after playing Far Cry 3 for about 10 minutes. The GPU usage was around 98% the entire time.
http://imgur.com/sewer6Y Speaking of far cry 3, for some reason the recommended setting come up as ultra. Obviously, the 760 can't max this game out, and I was just wondering if someone with the same card could give me an idea of what the ideal settings would be. I'm playing at 1080p, and I would love to use some of the anti-aliasing to make the jungle look a bit less sharp around the edges. Edited by bowlofsoup - 15 Feb 2014 at 11:52am |

Sometimes if you google something like "far cry 3 graphic settings" you can find a run down on what all the settings do and how much they impact performance. I never played far cry 3 so I couldnt help you out with anything specific.
Sometimes its just one setting killing you. For The Witcher 2 for example if you use ultra, it puts ubersampling on which requires some serious power. But if you turn that off and leaving everything else on ultra, the game runs 60fps+ all the time. |

Ok, so I've been having a minor problem since yesterday. To start off, I had to tighten up my cpu cooler since it was vibrating and making a loud clicking noise. I've fixed that, and I've been having no problems with the noise. My issue, since I opened up the tower, is that when the computer boots up , there seems to be about a 20 second period between the windows load screen and the login screen where there is just a black screen. Just wondering if this is normal? This wasn't happening at all up until the day before, and I'm positive that I didn't damage the machine in any way when I went to fix the cooler.
