Topic: Vanquish II USB 3.0 Question and Suggestion Posted: 03 May 2014 at 11:53am |
The Vanquish II USB 3.0 has two 3.0 slots but they are located in the back of the computer. When I do want to access these I have to get on my hands and knees with a flashlight, pull my computer out part way and fight between all the wires coming out of the back to plug in the USB 3.0. At this point the effort to do this every time is not worth the performance gain so I just end up using my nice USB 3.0 flash drives in the forward 2.0 bays. It wouldn't be a big issue but i'm using USB 3.0 64GB+ flash drives and move around alot of video as part of my work so it does get quite annoying.
My question is why was this a design choice? My comment is: future iterations of the Vanquish should have at least 1 USB 3.0 at the front of the PC. Edited by ChaosProdigy - 03 May 2014 at 11:55am |

Hey Chaos... Yeah, I believe that's a function of the H81M-E mobo and not the case, the 230T. The case itself is front 2x USB 3 but that mobo doesn't have any internal USB 3 ports for the front panel cables to plug into, only USB 2. . Only 2x USB 3 on the back I/O panel like you said.
Your suggestion would mean a different mobo, so DS would have to comment further. More money for a higher end mobo. There are USB 3.0 Hubs that might work. They would plug into the back, extend to where you can get at them. Not sure if there's any issues with that, however. If you go the hub way, might be worth it to get a powered hub so most devices work. Flashdrives should be good to go, I think. Some devices don't work well through a hub, so that's a consideration. I have found some 3' USB extensions that work very well for this.

Excellent point. Amazon Basics for $6 looks pretty good. I've used their other cables and tablet stylus.
