How well would a Vanquish tier 3 work with VR? I know a tier 4 would work better but would it be $400 worth of better? Thanks

Short answer is yes, it is $400 worth of better. The 1080 currently looks to be around $300 more than a 1060, and the extra 8 GB of RAM are worth about $104 extra. So, minimum $400 value for $400. The experience you'll get is much better all around and will last way longer.
The 1060 is rated as VR capable, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will produce the framerates you need in all games, or that it will carry you very far into the future. The lvl 4 Vanquish is a better deal all around if you can swing it. Edited by Cretae - 07 Jul 2018 at 9:18am |

Thank you, Cretae. Now I'm looking at the tier 2 Lumos with the GTX1050 upgraded to a 1080 and an M2ssd. Another $400. The hunger for more power just never ends.

So,so true....
Seems you're in $400 for a case and a M.2 since you already have the 1080 in the V4. If that's worth it to you, be happy. That's the premium you pay when you go from one of the bargain pre-builts to a complete custom. Just to switch cases and upgrade your storage isn't technically worth that difference, but DS must lose the "assembly line" savings to build custom even though with most of the same parts. I completely understand if you want different, better, more, but know what you're paying for. Know this: the 1060 vs 1080 was the only discussion on the table when talking about the Vanquish line. Fact is a GTX 1070 is more than capable, and considered the price/performance "sweet spot" for VR. So you could get one of those if you're building custom and save some of that $400. Hope it helps. |
