Topic: Vanquish: w/ Video Unboxing/Mini Review! Posted: 19 Jun 2013 at 12:50pm |
5/24/16 - 3 Year Update!
Wanted to give everyone an update. The PC is still going strong and I dont think enough people talk about how great this pc is for video editing. I have no issues working with Adobe Creative Cloud and having Photoshop and Premiere open at the same time while surfing and rendering video. I cant wait to get a Bolt system in the next few years after this pc but so far I have been very happy. 9/25/15 - Update Update: 9/25/15 Its been a little over 2 years now and i wanted to update everyone on the status of my original Vanquish system (version 1). So far i had a three major issues that i receive help with. 1. Power Supply died (Digital Storm sent me a box to ship my whole pc back to them and they replaced the power supply since i wasn't comfortable doing it myself. Covered under warranty) 2. SSD Errors (my 120GB SSD had errors and was covered under warranty from manufacture so they sent me a replacement.) 3. SSD Upgrade to 1TB (while i was waiting for the 120GB SSD to be replaced I decided to upgrade to a 1TB SSD for $350. Digital Storm was awesome and helped me over the phone with how to do the install and it was pretty simple. They didn't have to but even though my warranty for hardware had expire they provide support for the system for free for the life of it (i think). Anyway, they helped me for free.) Anyway, overall my long term review is that the system is great and the graphics card still works great for me (GTX770). The techsupport is worth every penny to me. I cant wait to get a new Bolt in a few years when im ready to get it replaced. Here are some benchmarks i ran in GTA5 Today. Enjoy! Watch the video on YouTube to view in 1080p 60fps. 3/20/15 - Year Update So its been a year since my last update and im happy to report that my system is still doing great and i have not found one game that I could not run at high settings. The only issue im having is with my 120GB SSD drive. It is running out of room even though im installing most content on a second 1TB hard drive. I want to upgrade upgrade to a 1TB SSD but im not sure how I can do it. Do you think Digital Storm could help me? I can purchase the TB SSD drive but i need help doing the upgrade. Anyway, other then my SSD running out of room everything is running great. Next time I make another purchase i will definitely go for a smaller form factor like a bolt. Anyway, thats my update :) 3/19/14 - Update I got my system back! After getting it on i was having the loud fan issue but tech support told me that is normal for the fan and that i just have to go to the bios and set the fan controls to silent. Im all set, my fingers are crossed and Digital Storm came through with their promise on support. Very Happy Customer! 3/11/14 - Update UPDATE: Stage 7 QA Check Passed - 28119 DS fixed the issue and now getting ready to send me back my machine... I CANT WAIT, I MISS MY SYSTEM :) 3/7/14 - Update Digital Storm helped me send my system back to them and they got it today. Hopefully its only the power supply that needs to be replaced and not something else. (Fingers crossed) 2/2/14 - Update Problems are back, this time im thinking its bad power supply. I posted photos toward the end of this thread and contacted support again :( 1/27/14 - Update Well, it looks like my machine is starting to have issues. I contacted support and left a message and waiting to hear back from them. It looks like my system is now rebooting by its self at random. I would be surfing the web or reading an email or playing a game and out of nowhere the screen would go black and then the fans would turn on to their loudness setting, like they are screaming for their lives. Next the screen would come back on and it would reboot and the fans would die down again. I have no idea what is causing this but its getting more frequent. It happened three times yesterday and after that I decided not to use it anymore because I don't know if it is causing damage, over heating or whatever. Anyway, we will see what kind of support I get, I have the warranty and I don't have anything crazy on the computer besides iTunes and steam for the most part. I don't use torrents and don't really have the system on for more then a day at a time so I will keep you guys updated. :( ** Video montage :) ** Used FRAPS and took some video of Battlefield 4 Beta, good so far. ** Update, Im playing Tomb Raider and I love it! Here is some video I shot, this game looks amazing on the PC. ** Update, added gameplay of XCOM ** Update, added gameplay of Tomb Raider **Updated, below is the unboxing, startup and mini review. If you want to see the HD version you can click here. ---------------------------------------- Well, I pulled the trigger, i just ordered my first pc gaming machine. I have been trolling the forums for awhile now and doing my research. I only wanted to get my feet wet and get a good start so I decided to go with the Vanquish system. My budget was $1,500. After talking to Brian at Digital Storm he helped me choose the right system. I decided to go with the 4th gen intel cpu and the new 770 card. Currently im on Stage 1 of the order process. I am coming from a 2011 Mac Mini that could barely play World of warcraft and star craft :) Order Contents: - PROMOTION: 10% Discount of $161 Applied to Digital Storm Desktop 500114, Original Price $1,610 Quantity: 1 $0.00 - -- PROMOTIONAL LIMITED TIME 1 YEAR WARRANTY UPGRADE ($99 VALUE) Quantity: 1 $0.00 - -- FREE NVIDIA Bundle - Metro: Last Light (Digital Download Code for GeForce GTX 660 and Up) Quantity: 1 $0.00 - -- FREE Intel Bundle - Grid 2 (Steam Digital Download Code for 4th Gen CPUs) Quantity: 1 $0.00 System Configuration: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Pre-built Digital Storm Vanquish - Level 4 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i5 4670K 3.40 GHz (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS Z87M-PLUS (Intel Z87 Chipset) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Vengeance Series (High-Performance) Power Supply: 600W Corsair CX Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Corsair) (Model: Neutron GTX Series) (SATA 6Gbps) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital/Seagate (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 2GB (Includes PhysX) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: Corsair H60 Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition) H20 Tube Color: - Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Red) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks CPU Boost: Stage 1: Overclock CPU 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz Graphics Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Memory Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory OS Boost: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 8 (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Extra Large) <b></b> Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 10-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Questions: I never had a solid state drive before, do i use it to install games or just for the OS and install the games on the 2nd hard drive that is 1TB 7200k drive? Looks awesome! The 4670K and GTX 770 will give you great gaming for years!
To answer your question about the SSD, the OS will be installed on there. You should also install your important programs and a couple games on there, you can move games on and off the ssd when you aren't playing them or if they won't benefit from the speed (like first person shooters). If you've never had one before prepare to be amazed at how fast they are. |

I had no games bundled with my pc, the only thing that I benefited from the summer sale is a extra year of warranty. |

Dude, if money is your issue call them back and upgrade that SSD to 240. I would say upgrade to 480, but money was my limiting factor as well. Serious dude, 120 gigs is going to fill up in a heartbeat. I have a 240 and I'm pretty darn close to full. In hindsight I wish I would have spent more money on it.
Aside from that I hope you enjoy your rig as much as I'm enjoying mine :D

On that ssd 480 though you only get 447 out of it, which is still a lot regardless

I didn't have options to upgrade. It's already pre built so they told me that I would have to do any upgrades myself, so I stood with the 120 sd. In the future though I would love to upgrade to a bigger sd card.

Yeah, it really just depends on your usage. I've gotten along just fine with 160GB (80x2) for my primary drive, and I still have 63GB free. The 1TB backup drive makes a world of difference. Luckily SSDs are coming down in price each quarter it seems, so the upgrade shouldn't be too terrible should you decide you need it.

Update: I took some video... or at least tried. I will post pics soon.
1. This is my first purchase but im confused, it was suppose to come with 2 free games and a XL T-Shirt but that wasn't in the box. What do I do to get the free games that came with my order? 2. Also does the T-Shirt ship separately? 3. Fan sounds loud, from when I start the computer the fans seem to stay on one speed. I thought it just gets loud when you first turn it on then gets quiet but that is not the case here. I don't know if this is normal... I took video so maybe that will help. My Mac Pro at work is much quieter then this. 4. My second drive which is the 1TB drive is not showing up, when I go to my computer it just shows my SD drive. The game codes should be in the binder you got.
For the hard drive issue Right-Click on the My Computer icon either on your desktop or in the Start Menu and select Manage. A new window titled Computer Management comes up. Select Storage from the left hand side by clicking it once, then select Disk Management(local) from the right side by double-clicking it. Find your new drive and format it with one large partition. I think this is correct because i did the same thing to mine when i reinstalled windows 7 Edited by ArkansasWoman777 - 25 Jun 2013 at 9:06pm |
