seems a very high % of the new AMD (and partner cards) are having overheating issues due to either a design or production problem with their vapor chamber.  derbauer has done a series of YT videos investigating the issues, and has seemingly narrowed it down to the vapor chamber.  either they aren't filling them with enough fluid, or they're drying out, in some cases.  he wasn't sure if it was a design problem or production line issue.  it seems AMD and their partners might even have to pull the entire line of these cards.

i'm not sure how many systems DS has shipped with these new cards in their line up, but i'm wondering how many that have them in their systems have experienced problems?  is DS even aware of the problems?

here's a link to a derbauer YT video on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26Lxydc-3K8

I have been seeing THOSE issues being posted, starting with Derbauer, JayZ2cents and Steve at Gamers Nexus.

Sounds like a big OOPS by AMD. Hope it all works out but recalling all the cards would be one heck of a mess.

Gordon interviewed AMD's Scott Herkelman at CES, and Herkleman basically confirmed this is a production line problem of under-filling a "small %" of their OEM cards' vapor chambers.  should be a simple QC fix.

JayZTwoCents had a very interesting video that further details the problem. What they are finding is that so far, third party cards are NOT having this issue.
AND.... with AMD specific card, most of the issues have come from cards that are mounted in the traditional horizontal, unless they are mounted with the fans of the gpu on top, as in the Velox case.

as long as their partners are using their own cooling solution that doesn't follow AMD's heat pipe design.  the rebranded one's can still have the problem.  in derbauer's testing, once you get "vapor lock" or "drying out" it's game over, so if you go from vertical to horizontal, going back to vertical won't restore it.  so, something to be aware of...

der bauer also brought up Gordon's interview of Scott Herkelman.  in that interview Scott seemed to intimate that AMD knows which batches of cards are effected by this problem, which then begs the question why they aren't reaching out to customers with a recall of the effected cards?  instead, AMD is relying on customers to find problems with their cards and then submit RMA's.  this then begs the question: is AMD lying about their isolating this to a "limited small batch" of defective cards?  or are they just failing at doing right by customers and issuing a recall on defective batches hoping they'll get fewer returns by putting the onus on their customers?
