Alright so i was helping my friend overclock, and his i7 2600k bounces from 1.392 to 1.4 on the vcore at a 4.8 Ghz overclock does this mean it will die quickly or is it fine? I know 1.4 for is bad, so just wondering :p

at 1.4 you are ok, once you go above 1.4 then you looking at speedier death, but quick death (right away) is at 1.7, at 1.5 you looking at about a year.

possibley 1.43 or 1.42 Edited by Zieno - 30 Jan 2012 at 2:59pm |

Sounds like you'd re having a great time squeezing what you can from the Cpu. Depends what kind life ya want. Vcore of 1.4 should be your goal, but if you want to push your luck, and it can be addictive, then your call. Have a ball, just realize what above1.4 might mean.

Hi Zieno,
You are reaching frequencies that don't make any difference in your game performance. You could drop back to 4.6 GHz with great longevity and never see or feel the difference in your gaming. With a 3.92 to 1.40 you are good to go in my opinion. Frank |

Well its hard to say at 1.44 -1.43 when it would go, it could be 2 or 3 years or 4 or 5 years with 24/7 use.
but as mentioned your oc is too high and if you can get 4.6 or 4.7 at 1.4 or lower I would go with that instead. |
