I see 2x hard drive slots at the bottom but when you go to the drop down menu you can select up to 4x drives. If you can add cages i think you might be able to go 3 high and still clear the water cooling hard lines but were does the 4th go? on the back? I can not fine pictures of the back of a velox case. Maybe its 2 in the cages and 2 in the back?

Well if you added a twin turbocharged doofus doll to the second from last cheese cracker - it might just work...

Depending on the motherboard, there will be at least two M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs. The Maximus Hero has 5. Many motherboards, including some or all of the ones DS uses have indents stamped into the back of the board which accommodate 2.25" SSDs. Then there's the cage you mention. If you're looking for a space for four 3.5" HDDs, you may need an Aventum or be out of luck here.

To correct a repeated error, motherboard do not have indents in the back. You use standoffs to keep the motherboard from touching the case not to fit SSDs. The indents that Cretae refers to are stamped in the backs of most modern cases to fit the SATA SSDs.

Interesting about mounting stuff in the back side of the Velox case.

That's confusing, since the configurator for the Velox seems to indicate that you can order SSDs to fill up to three storage sets. If only two can be SSDs it would be wiser to take them out of a third set selection list then wouldn't it? I'm actually looking to replace my two SATA Caviar Black 1TB drives with two 2TB WD Black SSDs so if I can't do that (and have a total of three SSDs it would be good to have that verified. |

I haven’t checked on what mounts it can accommodate, but you do not need mounts to use a drive. If it’s a stationary pc setup, you can place the drive anywhere it fits, like sitting on top of the psu or fitting the drive into any space behind the back cover. All you need is the power plug from the psu and SATA plug available on the motherboard.

My statement is not the ideal setup, might not look pretty, but I have just placed a drive into a case, hooked it up and left it loose for a few days as I played with the data. I would use double sided tape to secure it better if it was a more permanent thing. As SSD and nvm drives become more popular we’ll see less concern about the larger bays to fit an HDD.

This is a slightly less ideal solution, but could come in handy. It's an external drive dock that can handle HDs and SSDs. I have one of these connected to my Mac laptop, and it works great.
