Topic: Velox configuration Posted: 07 Feb 2019 at 10:41am |
Good afternoon everyone,
Second time customer here! My first purchase was a Vanquish several years ago, and I'm looking for something new and powerful! I'll mostly be gaming, and streaming from the new system, as well as using it for most of my school work as I'm attending graduate school. I'm going to post my configuration below, and am open to critique. However, I just had one concern; how should I ship the new system? I was leaning more towards 3 day air as I feel it's safer than Ground. Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? Thank you. Welcome to the forums Yogie! Like the build... Strong CPU, GPU, m.2 NVME memory and Mobo combination. Should slay everything on very high settings!
Suggestions..... *You might consider moving up to the Corsair branded cooler as their coolers are well known as extremely dependable. **For the activities you described, you would be fine with just 16 GB RAM if saving a few bucks is useful to you. RAM is one of the easiest things to add later on if you find you want or need more. As to shipping advice, ship the fastest way you can afford. Fewer bumps and bruises that way. DS is very well known for packing carefully in impressive red and black cartons, but give a shipper enough days on the road and they will find a way to knock something loose...lol. Either way, first thing you do out of the box is to double check that all parts are firmly seated, plugged in, and slotted. |

Thank you, and thank you for the feedback! So you'd recommend this: H20: Stage 2: Corsair H100i PRO - 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler, or this: 20: Stage 2: Corsair H115i PRO - 280mm Liquid CPU Coole.
you don't feel as though the vortex stage 2 can get the job done, or is this a minor change? |

Think the Corsair 240 should do nicely, a fairly minor change sir.
That will be a very strong build that should hold you for a long while! Be sure and share some pics with us on the forum when you get it! |

Thank you, and that's the plan! I was trying to future proof it as much as my budget would allow. I appreciate your input, and will do! :) |

Just FYI, the DS branded parts may well be as quality as the name brands, but they don't carry the extended factory warranty. The Corsairs are warranted for 5 years whereas the DS brands are warranted by your DS coverage only.

Welcome to DS. The Lumos is open on the left facing the pc and the Velox opens to the right (inverted mobo). Is that what you want? Just making sure.

Good job Yogie! Got the Verified Customer badge as well now...lol.
I think you will really enjoy the uber cool Lumos case for your build. I like the Velox case, don’t get me wrong... but personally, the only way I would ever put my motherboard upside down and video card at the top of a case would be if it’s all water cooled...and so to me, Lumos makes much more sense for your build sir! Great choice! |

I hadn't seen alot of Velox posts so I am glad to see someone else ordered one as well. Have to see how fast it makes it through I seem to have hit a snag on stage 3 which seems like an odd place for a delay. I was also encouraged to upgrade to the corsair cooler, I went with the 280mm.

Good afternoon everyone,
With great delight, I can say my PC has just arrived! However, I won't be able to open it until I move to my new apartment in the first week of April (I want to keep it safely packed in the packaging it was transported in). The outside of the box is pretty banged up, so fingers crossed that everything inside is okay! |

Glad to hear your new Lumos rig has arrived! DS generally packs very carefully for shipping, and your build isn’t a particularly fragile one. That said, I agree with PinkGhost that you probably should check inside sooner rather than later just to isolate any shipping caused issues.
When you unpack the rig...some reminders: With tempered glass on 3 sides and on top, don some latex gloves before you start and your case will stay handprint free a bit longer...lol. Place the case on it’s backside. Remove the main side panel and motherboard padding. Shipping bounces can loosen parts. Double check that your RAM and video card are all firmly seated in their slots. Good time to take a couple pics for reference. If all seems in good order, close the case and stand it up. Make sure when you plug in your monitor DisplayPort cable, that you use one of the three DisplayPort output sockets located on your RTX 2080 video card...not the on-motherboard video ports ... (we have had a couple folks on the forum do that lately by mistake) Plug in and launch the Lumos! Verify that it all runs stable. Download the NVidia GEForce Experience software from the NVidia website and it will help you to maintain the latest video drivers for your RTX 2080.... You can download Corsair iCue software to control your stock Corsair RGB case fans and Corsair cooler RGB color scheme....and that of any other Corsair RGB periferals. Let us know how it goes!
