1. Your Budget: $6500 ready to use
2. Expectations: gaming at the highest frame rate and quality
3. Usage: heavy gaming about 4 - 6 hours a day. Application development. I do not plan to overclock the cpu or gpu
4. Special Needs: keep cpu/gpu as cool as possible. Enough power to handle sustained gaming at 2560x1440 My config: Chassis Model: Digital Storm Velox Processor: Intel Core i9-13900K (5.7 GHz Turbo) (32-Thread) (24-Core) 3.0 GHz (Raptor Lake) Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero (Wi-Fi) (Z790) (Up to 3x PCI-E) (No SLI) (DDR5) System Memory: 64GB DDR5 5200MHz Kingston FURY Beast RGB Power Supply: 850W Corsair RMx Series (Modular) (80 Plus Gold) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: - No Thanks Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS) (NVM Express) Storage Set 2: 1x SSD M.2 (1TB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS) (NVM Express) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 3080 10GB (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: HydroLux PRO: Exotic Custom Cooling System (1x Graphics Card + CPU) HydroLux Tubing Style: Flexible Tubing (Requires HydroLux Liquid Cooling System) HydroLux Fluid Color: White Flexible Tubing + Clear Fluid (Requires HydroLux Liquid Cooling System) Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Chassis Fans: Cooler Master MasterFan Halo (RGB Fans) (Remote Control Only) Internal Lighting: Remote Controlled Advanced LED Lighting System (Multiple RGB Color Modes) Boost Processor: Turbo Boost Advanced Automatic Overclocking Boost Graphics Card(s): - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system How many radiators does Velox have? Can this config keep the cpu/gpu cool enough for sustained gaming at 2560x1440 and maximum supported frame rate? Is 850 watts enough to handle the load?

IDK if you need a 13900K and 64GB of RAM specifically for application development, you most certainly don't need them for gaming. I did take a quick look, and I'm pretty certain the 13700KF and 32GB of RAM would be the sweet spot. One quote I saw was
"In most cases, 64GB of RAM is extreme overkill, even for future-proofing, this is because little to no applications will use this much RAM, and it will become redundant before any application does." Your storage is gimped. The Samsung 980 PRO is double the read speed and 1.5 the write speeed of the 970 EVO PLUS. That speed will turbo charge everything you do from your operating system. The 970 EVO is fine for secondary storage. For $48, you should get the RTX 4070. It's just as fast as a 3080, and it's has 2 GB more memory and a whole generation improvement in features like DLSS. For that money, get the modern card. I don't ever recommend Custom liquid cooling. It's not necessary at all in such an open airflow case. Unless you have a lot of experience with it, the first time it requires maintenance, or gods forbid, leaks, it may make you crazy. If you get the 3700KF I recommend, get the Noctua NH-D15 air cooler. It can't leak, performs GREAT, and will save you a fortune. If you must have the 13900K, it's hot, so you want the triple fan Vortex sealed All-in-One. Great airflow and built-in fans will cool the GPU no worries. The 850W PSU is plenty. If you have experience with the custom cooling, and still want it, you'll need it. ![]() |

Thanks for the suggestions Cretae.
I can live with 32GB of ram. I'll go with the 980 PRO for the primary. DS couldnt liquid cool a RTX 4070 so I went with a RTX 3080. I have heard these cards run hot. Is the stock cooler on the 4070 enough to keep it cool at 100+fps 2560x1440? I suspected the 13900K was hot. I was worried it would be too hot for air cooled. The 3700KF has twice as many cores as I have now. I'll pair it with the Noctua NH-D15 chromax. What I save will go toward a nice USB DAC and audiophile headphones. Audio is important |

Cretae always gives very good advise. ![]() I'd go with the 4070. The Velox has the window on the right side and the mobo is inverted so the gpu is closer to the top of the case and its generated heat goes out quickly. The Hydro Lux is not really necessary for adequate cooling (will be subject to more issues and maintenance like leaking fittings, regular refilling of the reservoir and if you ever want to upgrade the gpu in the future, you will have to contend with the loop and get a liquid cooled card) and the offered Noctua is tops and you only have to clean the fan every once in a while. My 2 cents worth. ![]() |
