    Posted: 01 Feb 2016 at 6:31pm

Hi all.  I ordered a Velox on 12/3/2015 and received it on 1/25/2016.  Which seems like a long time, a small part my fault, mostly UPS fault, and a little DS fault.  DS fault because Velox was backordered, but I already knew that before I ordered.  They also gave me the option for a different case, but I declined.  So I had no issue with this delay.  Took about 3-4 weeks for the computer be finally built.  I “received” my computer on January 14th, 2016.  However, I never got it because upon checking the tracking number during work, I was notified that the computer was damaged during shipment.  The computer was sent back, Alex let me know that there was damage to the cooling system which was replaced.  I asked Alex to shake down UPS a little to get next day shipping, but they gave me 3-day shipping which I was just as happy with.

The computer arrived 2 days later!  CA to RI!  Except my UPS guy wants bust my balls some more.  I live in an apartment and for two days I wasn’t home because I was at work.  I asked him to go to the office which is literally a 2 foot walk and have the landlord sign for the package.  I signed the lease to let my landlord do that and it worked for other packages before.  Then the recent snowstorm delayed a Saturday delivery, and then I finally said screw it, worked from home and waited for the delivery on Monday January 25th.  I’ve never had an issue with UPS, but I was little pissed they couldn’t handle a package this large with extra care.  I’ve heard the stories of how they treat their packages and maybe it was an accident so I don’t know haha.

When the computer finally arrived, I was surprised how big the box was (bigger than I thought).  When I opened it up, things seemed a bit shooken up, some of the manuals were out of the little box they give you.  There was very MINOR damage on the case itself.  Nowhere visibly that matters.  On the back actually a very tiny dent.  Also the tube that holds the liquid is a bit scuffed.  It is VERY hard to see though so I wasn’t bothered by any of these things.

When I finally had it turned on, this being my first desktop ever, this might be one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.  Second day of using it, I just stop every minute to look inside and think how amazing this machine is.  I am pretty technically inclined and I thought I could eventually build something like this myself, but I have a much much bigger respect for the guys at DS for building these things.  I have no other words, but absolutely amazing.

The only thing I changed myself was adding 32GB 2400 GSkill RAM.  Honestly, pictures do it no justice.  If you are on the edge of ordering and are not sure.  Do it!Anyway, here is my build form and a few pictures.  Let me know if you guys have any questions and I’ll be happy to answer them.  Enjoy!

I wonder if the old style of side panel with the fan mountings is available as an option? Or is the full window all that is available.

Good question, Frank. I was wondering the same thing.   Didn't know it came with just the full size window.   Tough keeping up.

I have seen the full window before and afraid that it is the only option now. Looks good with the full window but I liked the other door better for air cooling.

Great question, we're in the process of updating photos of the VELOX. We removed the side window vents as they were not necessary. Thermal difference between with vents and without were very minor, especially since there is so much air coming in from the front and the vents on the top.

Having a full window allows our customers to show off their system better as well.

It does look great with the full window.  Strong

My only thought would be a sli Strix setup on air where the side fans , I would think, makes a difference kicking the heat from between the cards.  Has any testing shown this, or not?

Passive vents wouldn't make any difference. The advantage would probably be with fans.
