Video and Mobo

Hi, I'm about 90% settled on a D.S. but I have a couple of questions.

Which would you pick, dual 275's or one 295, both with 1,792 RAM.

People here seem to be pretty high on the EVGA boards, v. ASUS. I'm leaning toward the P6T Deluxe but I have the budget to with the  EVGA E758-A1 3-Way SLI. Reviews on both are either old, sparse, or not the current versions, so comments would be really welcome. Given that these are first mobo's EVGA is actually doing themselves, not just rebranding, that they might not be that hot, but from reading here people seem to just assume you'll go EVGA?

Mushkin over Corsair? I'm going with 6GB of 1,600, but the question is DHX or Mushkin. The Mushkin Redline has better CAS for sure, but specs aren't everything, close though. :} Opinions? I'm really up in the air between them and I wouldn't mind spending the money on a US based company! (No offense to anyone but the country needs the bucks. :/ ) Oh, and I'm assuming that sales will be telling me that it is 3 2GB sticks not 6 1GB's, that may seem obvious but I have not experience with D.S. and so I would like a firm answer.

Dual 275's are cheaper and perform almost the same as the 295 (and better in games which cannot use SLI, because the 295 is basically two 260's put together, and the 260's<275).

Don't go with the 1792 RAM models; there's virtually no discernable improvement.

The RAM sticks should be 3X2GB.  I've never even heard of a company which sells 6x1GB in their machines.

Thanks for the advise. I usually don't need tech support, unless you mean they aren't producing fixes, which would suck out the yin yang.

I agree about checking on the RAM, likely it happens rarely, but if I'm building and I've got 6 sticks laying around I might figure why not fully populate the board? But, I'll likely go to 12Gb at some point, read after the wife gets over me laying out real bucks on this rig.

OtoH, I haven't had a fully new PC in over 4 years, I won't say how long but you can't get parts for my case any longer. Helping a daughter through NYU has left me a bit on the underprivileged side, and NOW she's decided to take a 5th year! I think she likes spending my money more then I do. Scratch that I KNOW she does, but then I've only got one daughter and she knows how to do the lip quiver thing, which is grossly unfair.

However, I came down with the big C last January or so, and while everyone is babying the hell out of me I figure to milk it for a least a decent, around $3,000, though not awesome, around $6,000, new rig.

As to income tax, well my daughter was born in the Village, which is why I blame myself for her choosing NYU, and you haven't lived until you've had to pay NYC income, NY income, Federal income, and that FICA guy, all at the same time.

Now I'm back home in Virginia which is at least sane, for the time being, but you really don't want to be in my house around April 15th, actually more like March 15th as I get my CPA on it as early as I can.

I am holding my breath waiting for the other multi trillion dollar shoe to drop, that money has to get paid some day by some one, and it seems like that usually means soon and me. Now that I think of it that's another good reason to get my new PC while the getting is good!

Stocks, I used to work on the Street, before I got a little calmer job at 1 Madison, not a lot calmer mind you but a bit. Anyway, around May '08 some old friends at DTC suggested that it might be a good idea to lower my profile, so I did move over a bit more into Muni bonds, which is why I can buy a PC this year. i.e. I didn't lose 40% to 60% the way a lot of my friends did, or the way my wife's 401K did for that matter.

Cars, you got me there, my wife uses a Highlander, and I have an '89 Celica that I like to play with, I can't wait to get my antique plates with "Va Mage" on them!
