Topic: ... Video Capture ... Posted: 27 May 2016 at 9:03am |
* * * UPDATE * * * just chatted with an online expert... evidently, DS does not have video input cards for their machines... (Firewire) Amazon and NewEgg were recommended... * * * END OF UPDATE * * * I understand that many video devices come with digital memory storage to easily transfer the video from one device to another. I have an older Canon HV 30 for capturing video on miniDV magnetic tape. Is there a card in the DigStorm realm that will allow me to hook my camera through Firewire and download my video to the computer...? Any help is appreciated... thank you very much. . . Hi Earl_J,
Since DS doesn't stock Firewire devices then you need to order one from Newegg or special order it with DS. It would be cheaper if you just got your own card. I think what you need is something like the link. I am not recommending that particular card. Just showing it for reference. I have never bought one so have no personal experience. You should be able to pick out something that works for you. Frank Link to SYBA Firewire PCIe Card Edited by FrankW - 27 May 2016 at 4:45pm |

Thank you very much, FrankW. . .
I found two additional ones from StarTech. . . (I like them... I have a couple of external hard drive readers from them...) one is the 400 Mbps (1394a). . . $19... and an 800 Mbps (1394b). . . $57... I'll go double check the NewEgg pricing and then get the one most fitting... I do have prime - so looks like Amazon is the favorite so far... (grin) Thank you again for the guidance... I'm getting excited for this new DStorm adventure... |

Thank you for the encouragement, FrankW. . .
I'm happy with DS so far. . . Their updates during the build are exceptional. . . (wink) I think it'll be fun to operate... and put a bit more enjoyment back into the workflow. . . (grin) |

Well,
the anxiety builds as the shipment date closes in... I did find a couple of PCIe cards I'd like to install for a bit of video capture. I didn't find any real clear images of the interior of a Slade. Is there enough room in there for a couple of PCIe half cards...? Are additional cards difficult to install...? Thanks for any assistance everyone... Until that time... Earl J. |

Hi Earl_J,
The slade case is the Corsair 400Q case. You can read a good review at this link: Corsair 400Q Case. This is a smaller mid-tower and not a lot of room, but adequate for your build. Take a look at the pictures in the review or go to the Corsair site. Frank |

Thanks again, FrankW. . .
I certainly need all the help I can get... From the original video I saw on the DS website... I thought this was going to be larger than my old Alienware Aurora... it was 43 pounds big... I mailed it to my son... it served me well and finally died... Joe, my son, is an IT guy up in NYC and he wanted something to build a few virtual server to play with at home... He was surprised at the "good stuff" crammed into the machine and is loving the wide open spaces inside that box... (grin) * * * I'll go take a closer look... I was there on the Slade site today, and they didn't appear to have many photos of the interior. . . I'll go look again... Until that time. . . |

Well,
the Corsair in the video link you sent me is NOT the one currently in use from the video on the DS site... It has a front covering that can swing left or right... OR come off completely... not so in the link... The connection ports on your link appear on the top of the machine (allowing dust to collect directly into the connectors...?!) The one in the video on the DS site appear on the front panel, behind the swinging cover. The insides might be similar... I just never saw enough of the inside in the DS video to compare it to the Corsair 400Q link... I guess I'll just have to wait and see... I'm hoping DS built in some space for a half-card PCIe installation. . . I can't see why not... (grin) Thanks for the assist... Until that time. . . Edited by Earl_J - 08 Jun 2016 at 3:44am |

The link for the 400Q that Frank posted IS the new Slade 2 case. Don't know why, but DS hasn't updated its pages and is still showing the older 500D case.
In the config itself you can see the new , replacement 400q case. Hope this helps. |

If you are looking to build a Slade with the original 500D, give DS a call. Sometimes they still have them in-house, just not highlighting them.

Well,
I can live with the Slade 2 box... I'm only going to squeeze in a PCIe half-card for 1394b... AND I do not want to start the clock all over again... It has been a week since I made the order... it still hasn't shipped... I'll take what I get... It's paid for and going to be fast... I have two video projects standing by... (gee whiz) IF I had known earlier, I would have picked another machine. . . had I known... * * * I'm just very disappointed that with all the hype about building machines like it's their own... they would post old video and let it go at that... How can they let such a big thing slide by... at the same time trying to convince me the little things count...? * * * Like everyone else... they're after the bottom line. . . pay your money and take your chances... Very, very disappointing for my first-ever experience... (sigh) Until that time. . . Edited by Earl_J - 08 Jun 2016 at 7:43am |

Hi Earl_J,
There are a lot of things changing right now with the new cases, CPUs and GPUs. It takes some time for everything to get sorted out. The Slade case is a very recent change and DS just hasn't got to updating the video. Videos take time and money to make. Digital Storm is not a big company and I don't mind that some things get behind for a short while. I don't want DS spending a lot of money advertising the new Slade and then passing the cost on to us. I am happy with slow and steady if it saves some money. Yeah, well, that too. . . (grin)
* * * It's nothing I can't get used to ... say. . . over a period of... ahhh... maybe just as long as it takes for me to turn it on... LOL I know it'll be fast... the fastest computer I've ever owned... so front door or not... top connectors or front... big case or little... I'm ready for renewed enthusiasm for working on video and photo projects... on a new. . . really, really fast computer... (wink) * * * As a Lily drone purchaser from last JUN, I also have the patience for good things to happen at a reasonable/better/less expensive price... Thanks for the encouragement...
