I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a DS system in hopefully a month or so and am narrowing down the system I want. Anyway, if I go with one gtx275 card now with an overclock, will adding a second 275 later impact the stability of the overclock?

First off, what's your resolution that you're planning? We'll see if you need to OC at all if you plan on getting a second card. Secondly, what are your intentions with the computer? |

Are you referring to the CPU overclock or the GPU overclock? If CPU then adding a second GTX 275 should have no impact on the CPU overclock stability.
If you add a second card, and the first one is OCed, and you don't OC the new card, then both cards will perform at the slower of the two cards speed.

justin is correct, having said that as satsunada was trying to figure out, if you tell us what your resolution is, we can tell you if its even worth it for you to OC the GPU, it will create lot more heat, and if your resolution is around 1900 x 1200 or lower, you will see no performance gain from 2 x 275 GTX as they will run that resolution perfectly fine at stock speeds.

My question was about the cpu overclock, I don't have any plans to oc the gpu at this point. For the short term I will be using a 19" crt monitor so I know the single 275 will be more than enough but I plan to upgrade to a larger lcd by the end of the year and want to add a second card for also. I just wanted to make sure that adding a 2nd card later wouldn't mess with the cpu overclock

lol OK Grimfate, but in all fairness if you go back and read your post you will see you never specified that you were talking about the CPU, which is why all of thought you were referring to the GPU.
anyways, your CPU OC will have nothing to do with you adding a second or third GPU, go right on ahead ![]()
and always remember, you have lifetime support with DS so you can always call them and ask them to help you OC the CPU again ![]() Edited by DST4ME - 10 Jul 2009 at 12:54am |
