    Posted: 02 Feb 2008 at 12:47am

Anyone know of a program to test the stability of a video card?  Im trying to figure out why my UT3 is freezing, it's never done this before and I haven't installed anything new...   so it's either the vid card or something else...

Thanks,

Run 3DMark 06 benchmarks. I believe a demo copy should be included in your disaster recovery cd, if not you can download a demo copy here *big download.

Another application you can also try running is this demo: Real-time High Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting with the FSAA setting up on high, it should put some heat on your GPU.

Also download Ntune to monitor your GPU's temps

nTune is, granted, a piece of crap.  However, if you run SLI in Vista, nTune is the only way to modify fan speed on the 2nd card.  I hope to high heaven that RivaTuner will support SLI soon, but until then, nTune is the only option for some stuff.

Looking at your sig, it doesn't look like you run SLI, so yeah... don't download nTune.

NTune is the reason I bought a new rig here.  That was the last program I downloaded and it locked my system up with a firm grip of death.  Couldn't undo what NTune did.

I understand NTune works for some, but there have been many that have found NTune's lack of compatibility the hard way.  It may be fine and you may not have any issues with it, but I personally would never recommend it.

Is Ntune safe to use if you just want to monitor GPU temps without making any ajustments?

The problem seems to come and go...  i'll play for hours, for a week with nothing... then one day every game will decide to freeze, cod4, gears of war, ut3, bioshock, etc.. all will freeze.

I've pretty much tried everything I can, i've reseated ram, run 3dmark with no problems, memtest86 no problems...   I tried running windows with one stick of ram, one stick ran fine and the other results in a IRQL_not_less_or_equal error and the pc bombed so I called DSO.

They made me reset the CPU settings to default without the overclock, so far I haven't have any problems so maybe it was just the stability at that clock speed (3.33 Ghz).  We'll see!

Thanks, Mythius, I will look into that!

I have no problem at all with my machine and it screams for hours of COD4 with out even a hick up (less Punk Buster deciding now and them to kick you for some random unknow reason) but I would just interest me to see just how hot these puppies are running.
