Does anyone else have huge issues with vista 64? My new computer is taking 10-15 minutes to boot, and is very...stuttery. It is money when it is working, but it is like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hide. :(

Anyone have any suggestions?

haha no its not a common problem, toasty what -specifically- is going on, is it hanging before it ever gets to windows, or is it booting all the way past logging in then just takes forever to settle down? try and describe whats happening a little more in depth

IT starts up, all the bios stuff says whatever. Windows says it's loading w/ the green bar and it's fine. THen the screen goes black for 7+ minutes and eventually windows goes to my desktop.

i would guess that your problem is mobo or HD related,
maybe try running some stress tests on the HD, like PCMark for ex, see how it responds, and try googling the specifics

Does vista usually have a "safely remove hardware" icon in the system tray? Mine says I can remove a SCSI disc device. I'm downloading pcmark right now, we'll see how that goes

Why can't computers just WORK! :(

dont forget the amount of intricate electric and phyiscal work going on in there, every system has bugs just tough it out and it will be well worth it.
safely remove hardware is, i believe, something caused by nvidia mobos and certain harddrives (right?), it will be there forever so get cozy with it, however, it is perfectly normal

!ender is correct, the safely remove hardware icon is there to stay. This is because the SATA HDDs are hot swappable. After staring at it for a couple of days becoming annoyed, I just went to my notification area properties and selected "hide".

10-15 minutes to boot is ludicrous. My old P4 running at 1.59GHz took less time to load Windows (although not by much). Personally, I would contact DSO by phone and find out what is going on with your system.

I called before, but I will be calling again for sure tomorrow. I just went on my girlfriend's $800 HP laptop while it was not plugged into the wall, and it makes this desktop look like a Comcast Slowsky on the freeway :(

Have you tried booting into safe mode?
Press F8 after the POST screen, that'll enable the boot options menu. Select safe mode.

Safe mode is the core OS, no extra crap, no networking, so it should be a quick load. If safe mode comes up quickly, its likely you have some resource hogging application during normal startup making it take long to load. Bloated security software can cause this *ahem*

If safe mode loads in 10 mninuts still, you might have some other issues going on. I'd look at the HDD/software install firstly.

So I spoke with Kelly and he is confident it's a hard drive issue. Hopefully he's right, I'll update you guys in a few days once it arrives, thanks for all the help so far :)
