Are there any advantages to getting 64 bit Vista ? .. Will it play all games ok and will there be any hardware/driver issues ?

those problems were with xp 64

vista 64bit works with a lot of things now but if you have some specific thing in mind you can always check.

with 64bit vista you will use all of your ram combined, right now is the time when everybody will be stwiching over to 64bit.

step one to getting everything to go 64bit

I'm going from xp 32bit pro to vista 64 premium when I purchase my new pc, this is the time.

you can run 32 apps in vista 64

Thanks for the info.

Does it have any effect on graphics quality that you know of ?

I'll just be using it for gaming, some internet use, and maybe tv/video transfer or viewing.

The main reason I was interested was in fact just what you mentioned about using ALL of your memory.

I have xp pro right now on 4 gigs and it only reports abour 3 gigs.

yes but your system does use the whole 4GB but on the os can't, cause your graphic card has ram that takes space also.

so if you have 4GB of ram and your gpu has 512MB of ram, xp can't use all of that.

vista 64 will use the whole 4.5GB, and it supports directx10 and it has little features that xp don't that I like. new task manager for example with lot more info

you know it sounds like the way to go from what you're saying. I have to tell you I was not impressed by Vista Hpme version. I found most of the features if not all to be purely cosmetic and was difficult to get around, unlike xp which I really love as an OS of choice.

vista is nothing but xp with a few changes.

we can disable some things for you but other then that it is xp with more stuff

so the Vista 64 bit is notably different than Vista 32 bit ?

yes, any 32bit OS suffers from a 4GB totall max ram cap.

vista 64bit can run 64bit and anything that runs on vista 32bit

they are the same but one is 64bit so it can see upto 128GB of memroy, if you go with ultimate
