Just curious if each OS gets their on partition, or is it done differently? I'll probably be ordering a DS system in 6 or 7 weeks and was wondering how that worked

Each OS should have their own partition or you going to encounter problems down the road.

As I thought, DS will set it up if I request it, right?

Yes we would. But understand, there is a small chance that something would work great in one os, but not the other. we can't be responsible for that.

I understand something might work well in one OS and not the other, I'm thinking of getting a 500GB hard drive and using 150GB for XP and the rest for Vista

Yes, you can use both XP and Vista in the same 1 Hard Drive, and there are no any problems, also they will work fine too.
Because I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2 and Vista Ultimate 32-bit in 1 Hard Drive. |

then spend the extra cash, get yourself a 150 raptor, dual boot it with each os, (cut the raptor in half for each os partition), then get a 500GB+ for games.

well I think the 74GB would be big enough for 2 OS installations. Just out of curiosity, why recommend a raptor hard drive to install the OS on?

because, the pagefile being on the fastest drive is where your performance will be.

I see, so if I do decide to go with the dual drive dual boot setup I would have to install different drivers for each OS, right?

sounds like it could be a pain, on a completely unrelated note, would it be possible to get both a floppy drive and media card reader in my pc?

We can do it, as a special request. We don't offer it as a option because of compatibility problems.
Let us know your exactly configuration, and we will see if we can fit both a floppy drive and card reader.

I went a little different route in setting up my dual boot XP/Vista
Windows XP installed on it's own 150gb raptor HDD 1.
Windows Vista installed on it's own 150gb raptor HDD 2.
Data drive for apps/games of both OS on 500GB x2 in raid 0 HDD 3 & 4.
I do not like my page file on my system(OS) drive.
HDD 5
36gb raptor drive partitioned into two partitions of equal size 18/18.
Setup a page file for XP on the first partition and set min and max size to 12gb 3 times the amount of ram installed.
Setup a page file for Vista on the second partition and set min and max size to 12gb 3 times the amount of ram installed.

I have mine:
150 Raptor partitioned - 1/2 for XP Pro, and 1/2 for Vista Ult. 300 Raptor (2x150 raid 0) for games 1 TB (2x500) for storage and apps. I may get a 32Gig Raptor for my pagefile only. Not sure yet. |

You still can have a great system around that price. You probably have another hard drive lying around at your place which you can install later and use that as a swap file drive or to store all your stuffs. For around $2200-$2300 you can still get 2 HD or a great big one and still have enough money to build a real nice machine. |
