-Hello, i am a first time buyer for any kind of computer.
-I have a budget of $2,000.00-$3,000.00.
-What i am mostly going to use this computer for is 3-5 running sessions of EVE(Eveonline.com), so i would like to have 3-5 running monitors as well. other then running multiple EVE games, i will be using it for basic web surfing and other games such as settlers 7 and starcraft II.
-I have a customization that i made, but dont really know if ill be able to run what i want on it ticket number: 505785. sorry for not listing the specs in here. (do i just copy and past the entire custom build page?? )
i would love help on this subject before i decide to buy. And thank you for at least looking at all that i wrote ![]() Edited by b6m1x8 - 22 Mar 2011 at 5:34pm |

Thank you for replying.
i do have a few questions though.
-What is the difference between Nividia and ATI Radeon? Alot of games that i look at have Nividia as their video card of choice.
-Should i get a duel ATI Radeon? Or will a single Radeon be enough? Or will a single radeon be enough for a few months until i can upgrade(i think) to a duel? -Would the "High Speed Network Port" be more efficient then the "Killer 2100"? Honestly i dont know the difference between the two, but from what i can see, one is optimized for gaming while the other one is high speed connection
-Is it safe using only Air Stage 1? a week ago i was reading posts in this config section, along with the customer review, and in one of the posts (If not multipule posts) i saw people commenting that while gaming the video cards will over heat the most. -If that is so, then shouldnt i add more fans or go for the H20 cooling? -Should i also overclock the video card(s)? Since i am going to be using the video card(s) alot. (running at least 3 games at a time) Thank you again for answering my post , and If you can answer any of these questions that would be very helpful. Also i forgot to mention that i will be using Acer 22" Wide LCD Monitor Black, (V EPEAT) with a reselution of 1680x1050. Will the fitting you mentioned still work with these? And sorry for the late adjustment. ![]() |

From what I've read/heard the Killer 2100's biggest advantage is the software that it comes with allows you to prioritize your packets based on what application they're coming from. This is pretty cool but I believe you can find software that does this. Honestly, the biggest issue with MMO's is going to be your internet connection. Most on-board NIC's are gigabit these days and literally transmit data just as fast as the Killer. Regarding your videocard questions. I have no idea how demanding Eve Online is. I know it's been out for a long time and, if I remember correctly, I was able to run it on the highest settings with my old 3870x2 and Core 2 Duo with no problems. I don't know how many monitors each card supports but from what I can remember most cards are able to support 2 or 3 monitors each. I know ATI just released one (the 6990 I think) that can support up to 5.
Regarding whether you want ATI or Nvidia, that typically boils down to preference or personal experience. I'm fairly certain either brands mid-range cards will be able to eat EVE for dinner. Your biggest issues are going to come from multi-monitor and the amount of VRAM the cards actually have.
Don't quote me on this, but I think if you SLI or Crossfire two cards you lose multi-monitor support to some extent. However, you may need multiple cards just to support the amount of monitors you're running.
Lastly, in regards to your cooling question. The game you stated for primary use isn't that taxing. When you throw the additional monitors in the loop things get a bit hairy. If you're talking about running multiple sessions of a game at a time you're going to be taxing the system quite heavily. Depending on your ambient temperature in your room, you may want to consider a better cooling option.
Hopefully, someone with a bit more knowledge than me will come along and throw you some more information.
Hope this was at least somewhat helpful!

nvidia or ati, not much of a difference, right now best price/performance is the 570 gtx from nvidia.
however for multiple monitor support the 6970 is the best choice right now. depending on your res and etc, its hard to tell if you need sli/cf, that is why my config supports cf/sli, so you can always just drop in a second card if needed. Killer 2100 = waste of your money, the difference it might make to the whole picture is like the needle in a haystack, not worth the money at all and nothing you will notice. all gpus stock cooling is air, if you get LC you have to get stage 6 cooling, cost a lot and its not as easy to add a gpu, you can't really compare other's pcs to yours, with temps, room temp is one of the biggest factor, if your room temp is 75f or lower, your temps are gonna be just fine in air, if the room temp is warm, adding more fans to blow more of this warm air is not gonna help cool anything. ocing a gpu should only be done if you see you need the power, otherwise oc gpu means its running warmer without even being under load, which means load temps will be higher, also the oc on the gpus that DS does is very mild and will not be noticed. ok now I see you have a low res, I would defenitly go with one 6970 and see if that gives me all I need, you should go on eve's forum and ask people that are running it on highest settings, 1. what their res is and 2. what fps they are getting and 3. what gpu/s they have. This info will help up give you exactly what you need, without it we are gussing here, for example if you don't need cf/sli ever to do what you want to do, then we can save money by dropping mobo and psu lower. |

Thank you for all of the info.
i believe i will go with the h20 cooling, because the summers are very hot. and while im at it i might as well get a duel ati 6970. i dont mind waiting awhile longer to save up the additional amount. I'll be happy getting the more expensive one as long as it lasts long and preforms great.
I will go to the EVE fourms and ask around for there specs. Thank you again for all of the info. |

Keep in mind that LC also uses blowing air thru rads to cool things down, so again blowing warm air thru rad is not gonna help cool anything down, if your room temp is at 80f or higher, there are very few things you can do to get good temps.
I would wait on the second 6970 till I need it, it is very easy to install for someone who has never done it. Our pleasure and good luck ![]() Edited by DST4ME - 24 Mar 2011 at 5:00pm |
