    Posted: 12 Jul 2010 at 3:02am
Hello!

After finishing OCin my 5850 and installing new water cooling, i am read to further OC my i7 920 cpu. It came from DS with a 3.9 OC.

I have no idea how to overclock the processor and have little experience with the BIOS ><.

So if anyone could help out and tell me what i should do to start i would greatly appreciate it :)!

(i would like to get maybe 4.2 or 4.3) but anywhere 4.0+ i will be happy with :)

well thats easy enough, you want to just go up 200mhz?
if you are able to, take pictures of all of the screens on your bios that relate to overclocking, that will help us see where you are and what can be done
also post something showing CPUZ on the main tab and memory tab
and post a shot of reaptemps + your computer under load from LinX or intelburntest

Nah, 69°C under load at 3.9GHz isn't bad at all.

It looks like your RAM timings accidentally reset to BIOS default 'auto detect' settings. Next time you're in the BIOS manually set them back to 9-9-9-24.

temps look great, voltages looks good, you should have some good headroom, lets try and even steven 4 + 1600, similar to where i am right now, i like 4 on air becuase it still sounds cool while staying cool
(kudos if you get the double meaning Smile)

BEFORE you start, save your overclocking profile to slot 1 and 2
im basing these ram settings off of what Dragoonseal said, since he seems to know what ram you have. id like to see your spd tab though please

try this and run your tests, if you crash loading into windows, bump your vcore in baby steps. if you get to 1.375 and you cant get into windows, stop, load your old profile, and come back to the thread

i prefer raising the blck over relying on the muliti. blck controls a lot, hence the term "base" so favoring it gives overall better performance, but as im sure you have already guessed, its not as easy to get stable and will run a little hotter on your tests. if you prefer not to take that route we can reassess
