I’m thinking I would like to add more memory to my computer. Instead of two sticks of one GB memory, I was thinking two sticks of two GB memory.  How can I tell exactly, what kind of memory I need?
I have a nVidia 6800iLT Core 2 Quad motherboard with 2GB DDR2 Corsair at 1066MHz

i do believe that 1066 ddr2 at 1066 is the some of the best you can get.  They do make ddR2 1100 AND 1200, but its over priced and not really worth it.  The corsair 1066 sticks are great and you can overclock them a little bit just fine if needed with slightly looser timings.  Just make sure to only use 2 sticks of the 2x2.  If you want more later down the line, it can be a pain in the butt setting it up in all 4 slots.  The memory controller for that board is a bt picks when you have all slots populated by 1066 ram, and i assume same goes for higher ram as well.  I have that board as well, its great except for that one little flaw.

That board supports FSB of 1333, so depending on what type of processor you have, the 1066 is probably plenty.

I would recommend you go to a site like www.crucial.com. It has a system scanner and a memory advisor tool that will tell you what kind of memory your currently have and what type of memory is recommended for your system. Of course you can then examine their recommendations and make a selection of the right type of memory for your system and buy whatever brand you want from sites such as www.newegg.com. I would guess that at least some of the other memory manufacturers have similar tools. Hope this helps!

crucial has great ram but you already have 2GB of 1066 I would just get 2 more GB of 1066 otherwise you are wasting your time. you will not notice any difference with ocing the ram.

If you have 2gb of 1066, as in 2 x 1gb sticks, and you add 2 more 1gb sticks you are more than likely going to have a few issues.  If you do, just post here, ill give you the run down of what i had to do to get them working perfect.

At least with the EVGA 680i thats true, not sure if other makes have the same issue, thought i would point that out

as long as the rams have the same timing it would be OK, going with 2 x 3GB is always better, its just the waste of money that the 3 x 1GB has to be thrown away.
