Two years ago I bought my laptop from Digital Storm, I haven't got any complaints in particular with the system I really love it, but recently I've been having some heating issues that cause the computer to crash so I (at the advice of one of the technicians from DS) gave the computer over to a local technician to see if he could resolve the problem cheaper than it would be to have it shipped across the country. I told him that it might be a RAM issue of some sort(I didn't know at the time it was a heating issue) because it was only reading that I had 8gb of ram rather than the 12gb i had on the machine but he quizzically repeated to me "12 gigabytes? Well, there's only one RAM stick so there's no way it could be 12 gigabytes." so I thought it was my own error thinking I had twelve, but looking at the receipt I was emailed when I bought my laptop I saw I was supposed to have 12gb. I haven't experienced any issues with it other than this crashing but I'm wondering what I would do to resolve having been somewhat ripped off for the four extra gigabytes I paid for two years down the road, if it would even be possible to do anything about. I'm sure it cost me a good $300-400 extra to get the extra RAM.

TL;DR - I paid for 12gb and only got 8gb, I only now noticed 2 years later, what should I do?

I would contact DS directly either via phone call or message. Alex (management) might notice this and respond as well.

This is what our team said, there are two slots under your keyboard and two under the bottom for your laptop. Two 4GB sticks are under the keyboard, and one is under the bottom of the laptop.
