I noticed some computers that would pass our stability tests and then the customer would receive their unit and have stability issues right out of the box. It's very unpleasing for me to feel that a customer of ours orders a system, waits for it to arrive, and gets weird stability issues out of the box.
We want every customer to have a flawless machine straight out of the box. You only get once chance to make an impression, and Digital Storm wants every customers to be perfect.
We have made some internal changes in our QA process, I would like to shed some light on them for everyone:
- We are no longer using just Prime95, MemTest, 3D Mark to test the stability of a system.
- We are now using software that tests the stability of the entire machine: hard drives, processor cache, memory, and processor using not just "Prime" but also "Pi" calculations.
- Our testing staff is now required to save a log of the stock stability test and overclocked stability test to ensure QA verifies each and every system has successfully been tested for an extended period of time.
- Our QA team now verifies the system against a sheet that has the latest motherboard and driver versions.
- We have a dedicated individual that updates our master volumes for BIOS/Driver releases
With these changes, we strongly feel that we will reduce our stability issues drastically. Without the help of our customers, we would never have improved. So thank you everyone for the valuable feedback. Digital Storm is listening.
Warm Regards,
Alex
P.S.
This new process starts today, any orders that were suppose to ship today are being held back to go through our QA process again with our new standards. Edited by Alex - 21 Jul 2008 at 2:18pm |

Wow... cool stuff Alex... I think you are going to have a whole lot of disappointed people waiting for shipped notices getting all teary eyed :)
I think it is a great plan, don't get me wrong, just one more blip on the old threat meter I guess :) I am glad to see you participating on the forums, and actively responding to peoples issues, makes me alot happier I chose to buy from your company. Way to go Alex..... As a retired QA man myself..... you always strive for customer satisfaction...... When a customer receives his computer and it's ready to go out of the box with no problems, that's satisfaction!

Deathwest, I would say, load defaults on your BIOS to remove any tweaks and work you way from there.
However, please create a new thread in the tech. support area for help. We don't want to loose the focus of this thread.
Warm Regards,
Alex

As these random problems get resolved one by one by DS, does this warrant having a FAQ forum created just for tracking those oddball out-of-the-box technical issues that some customers experience?
Is there also a consumer feedback form (either included with the product or online) where these rare occurrences can be logged and categorized? Seems like this would minimize many future complaint postings if there were a resource checklist to remedy them.
The site already has so much helpful technical information spread throughout the forums by DS staff and users alike.

It's very refreshing to see a company, in this day and age, who is looking to improve the quality of their product and its reliability. I've always liked the small business mentality of doing things right for the customer and tend to dislike the corporate mentality. Proves once again that DSO is a good company!

I am very glad to see this much needed update to the QA process. This is easily as important a step as when DSO introduced their new test bench setup to check parts for basic function pre-assembly. I hope both DSO and it's customers see the benefits of this renewed effort towards eliminating any customer recieving less than "The Perfect Digital Storm".
Widdlecat, great new sig you have there. Looks like you have GIMP mastered. Edited by Tyler Lowe - 22 Jul 2008 at 1:17am |

Alex,
Having been thru the ordeal of an unstable computer when she arrives and believing that your staff looked it over from "head to toe" before it left DSO, I applaud you for taking the next step in resolving a BIG customer concern. This is why we all stick with DSO even though many of us have been thru the grinder with our rigs. DSO will always put the customer first and this is just another example of it!

And the other element you have to consider is that, after a time, one sometimes get complacent (sp?) if everything goes right pretty much all the time (and/or you don't know any better). Sometimes, in order to not to miss something, you need to put in more procedures so that it forces you to stop and really look at what you're doing and not accidently gloss over something because you're so used to it always working/acting a certain way.
