I have beaten FEAR since I got it a while back but saw the platinum collection for $20 at best buy and bought it since I haven't played the expansions. I loaded up the game and it was running great and about 5 mins in it felt like my FPS cut in half or even more. I loaded up FRAPS and saw that I was getting like 40 fps. I installed 175.16 (from 175.19) to see if it was just the drivers and thought everything was fine when I was getting 150+. Then all of a sudden 5 mins later it goes down to 40 and hovers around there with a noticeable slowdown - must not be the drivers. Anyone else experience this problem? The platinum collection already has everything patched so it cant be that...

I didnt have this problem at all when I played it last time (had the old version with like 5 CDs and patched it manually).  I don't see how it would be any different in the platinum version.

edit: this is with both 175.19 and 175.16 WHQL from nvidia

First thing to check would be the card temps. Check to make sure they arnt overheating and downclocking. After that is done then we can start to look elsewhere.

I did that... they are not overclocked either.  the temps are the same with FEAR as any other game that runs perfectly smooth.

edit: I was running on 1920x1200... I tried on 1024x768 to see if it made a difference and I am still getting 40fps.

welp found out the problem... it turns out the FEAR engine has problems with certain usb devices and it required me to disable certain HID devices entries in the device manager (even though it didnt really make anything not work).

funny how i didnt have this problem even with the same setup when i played the game last time but oh well at least it works now.

That is odd, what Human Interface Devices did you disable out of curiosity.

Just the general ones - which as far as I know didn't effect anything at all.  They say like "HID-Compliant Device" and I have 3 listed.  This is aside from my mouse/keyboard which show up a little lower.

Interesting, I will start digging on what those are as I am now curious myself.
