My computer has started making a strange noise - like a fan is dying. Today I pulled it up on top of the desk and booted up to find out what's going on.
I'm still trying to isolate the noise as it comes and goes, but... I have the 850Si case with stage 3 cooling. One of the 4 fans on the side panel is not working at all. Are these fans programmable, or do they only spin up when needed.....or do I have a dead fan? I don't recall ever seeing any of those fans stopped while the computer was running, but the computer IS running cool right now. *EDIT* It's the top intake fan that is making the noise. It definitely sounds like it's burning out. That fan never was quite right. The fan housing used to rattle in the case because it doesn't QUITE fit properly. I had to use silicone caulk to seal it to the metal frame to quiet it. Now it will be a real PITA to get out for replacement. Grr. I think the side panel fan is gone too. If I try to "jump start" it, it will spin about a 1/4 turn before stopping again, so the motor is at least trying to move it. Guess I'll give DS a call in the morning.
