Just wanted to give the DS crew a little heads up on what to expect with Westinghouse customer service.

In April, I bought a 37w3 Westinghouse 1080p monitor as a gift to myself for finishing grad school.  Today, less than 9 months later, I turned it on to find the picture all distorted with what look like stretch marks, for lack of a better description.  Pretty much unplayable, covering 25% of the screen.

I called customer service, and the guy must have been new that day.  I had to repeat everything several times, and he had no idea how to answer most of my questions.  Long story short, I have to send it back, a process that in his words "would take a while", followed by a chuckle.  When asked to clarify, "awhile" could mean up to several months.

Being without it for 2 weeks would infuriate me, but several months is just insane.  Just wanted to warn you all, there's a reason why Westinghouse items are significantly cheaper than the rest; decent product, but once it dies, you're in for hell.

Well, now that you have damned Westinghouse products, the DS Badge of Honor requires you to report back your experience.

Disclosure: I own no Westinghouse products and as far as I know, neither does DS.
However, I do own 20,000 shares of Westinghouse stock LOL

I called again today in hopes of speaking with a more competent operator, to no avail.  This one told me in honesty that they won't repair/replace my monitor for a couple months, because they're "backed up from Xmas repairs and in the middle of inventory".  To boot, they want ME to pay for shipping the monitor back to them.  That's easily $150 or more additional out of my pocket (Monitor alone weighs 55 lbs, and would require oversized shipping, etc.).

If you're thinking about Westinghouse, remember that there is a reason why the price is so good; you're screwed if it breaks!

I may not be a computer expert, but I know my home theater products.  There is an old saying that "you get what you pay for".  You are absolutely right headrush, there is a definate reason why Westinghouse's LCD are considerably cheaper than their competitors.  Other reasons include limited picture control, average colors, and HDMI issues with certain products.  But the biggest issue is their customer service, I know a number of people that have issues with their Westinghouse sets and it has been a very frustrating experience trying to get their issues resolved.

I heard Toshiba makes decent TV/Monitors with respect to price vs performance.  Specifically, Toshiba REGZA 40RF350U Super Narrow 40" 1080p LCD HDTV looks pretty decent. Any thoughts?
