The plan is to pick up a new monitor at the local Best Buy or other electronics store.. I'm looking for a nice 22" monitor, but the problem is I don't know what I should be looking for. I don't know what makes a monitor "good," per se. If it helps, my range is around $300, but I don't mind spending up to $400 if its worth it. This monitor will be used primarily for gaming... I don't have any plans to watch TV on it. Right now I've got a GTS 250- not sure if that matters either.

Thanks for the help :)

look for a monitor that has the same Viewing Angle, both vertical and horizontal, and above 170°, that is a sign of a good panel.

keep in mind your 250 will have a problem running games over 1600 x 1200 at high settings.

Does it matter what kind of DVI monitor I buy? I saw that there are several different kinds.

Also, what's the deal with glossy, etc?

For a relatively small display like that, you could get a CRT. Then all the flat screen issues go away. Of course, you'd probably have to reenforce your computer table to support the weight, and you're not going to find one at BestBuy.

I personally think it looks great.  I have this: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Displays/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=320-7339 and they both have the same basic stats and I really like mine.
