Topic: What happened to EVGA OC 780ti Posted: 07 May 2014 at 9:57am |
I had a previous post with many answered questions and am just a few weeks from ordering two computers from here, but the single most important item in the config is now not available.
What happened to the EVGA overclocked 780ti? It doesn't appear to be selectable. The performance gain is significant for the $20 or so difference from stock. Will this be back in stock or is it removed permanently? The 770 and 780 both still have the EVGA OC version, so I am hoping this is just temporary. |

Actually, I looked at a couple of systems and neither is currently offering a 780 Ti, but the base model. Maybe it is just a transitional state. ;-)

I had the same concern. You can special order it though. That's what I'm going to do when I get a Bolt 2.

Now I am not seeing a single 780ti of any brand. That is concerning.
I am about 2-3 weeks out from ordering 2 $2500 PCs from here, and the single most important component is being changed. I read the reviews on a number of prominent sites and the EVGA beats the ASUS in almost every performance benchmark. I don't particularly want to "special order" a product like a basic video card, that seems like a silly waste of money. I am DEAD-SET on getting a non-reference 780ti in both computers. I vastly prefer the EVGA but could settle for the ASUS as long as I can overclock it with included software. The base clock on the ASUS is quite slow. Any word from DS on the future of non-reference 780ti, the cost of special ordering EVGA, and how easy the ASUS is to overclock? |

Did a quick check and there is a reference 780 ti in the configurator. I looked under ODE and Bolt for example.
But, its a reference and not your pick. Edited by bprat22 - 10 May 2014 at 8:30am |

Well Asus just beat the record for a single G/CPU build. They got their 780 Ti varint to 1.9Ghz. They definitely beat EVGA. If only it could fit in the Bolt 2 You can still get EVGA's 780 Ti to about 1.2Ghz.
I had the same question as you. I was told it's a fee of $45 to special order a part. There's a catch though, DS doesn't provide warranty for the special ordered part. So if you order EVGA's ACX 780 Ti and it's defective or breaks you have to deal with them directly. EVGA does state on their site a 600W PSU is the required minimum. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=03G-P4-2884-KR |

I guess I am ok with the ASUS 780ti but now I am beginning to question the ASUS R290x.
Does it actual cool the 290 or does it overheat like all the other 290s and not reach its full potential. I'm also afraid long term for a card like the 290 and all that high heat. I'm betting it doesn't have the longevity like the 780ti will. |

The non-reference R9 290 card do a great job with cooling, no issues that you need to worry about

Personally I prefer Nvidia over AMD, all about what you want. Nvidia cards have more feature. Shadowplay, gamebooster and so on. Don't forget the awesome Physx. From what I hear the 290X is a bit louder. Never know if people are just exaggerating.
What chassis are you getting? |

We are getting two Virtues and two Qnix 1440p to go with it. I considered the Overlord, but I couldn't justify the price difference and I've seen the Qnix and it is awesome.
Wife pretty much just plays WoW, Civ V, and farts around on some other stuff. I play a wider range of games, but neither of us play FPS. We are both looking forward to 1440p at 96hz (most won't overclock to 120 and many games won't get to 120 with a single 780ti). I bet most games can hit that max refresh with the 780ti. |

I would check out Asus's ROG Swift 1440p G-Sync monitor. Should be released soon. At 1440p the EVGA SC ACX 780 Ti (OC) should hit about 55-60fps with 4xaa on ultra. All depends how well it's overclocked.

That monitor is definitely on my horizon and seems to "check all the boxes" that a gamer could want, but at SRP of $799 for a TN panel, it just seems steep.
I've fallen for IPS 1440p colors/picture that I've seen and if you have a card to push an 1440p IPS to 60-96 fps (which I don't until I get my new DS system) then it is stunning. Most TNs look washed out, like an anti-glare gone wrong. And TNs with AG on them? Ugh. I would like to see an in-depth review of the ROG, Qnix, and a very good TN like BenQ. I know the new TNs are better than the old ones, but I would like to see the difference. |

Everyone talks about the TN panel first. It's actually a custom panel. Supposed to be better than others. I can see why people would have second thoughts. If you check out the videos it actually looks good. It's hard to say though. They said the panel isn't like any other, custom built for that monitor. Someone will make a review. Personally I think they'll do a good job with the panel. If not I'm fine with probably the smoothest 1440p monitor out there.

Did tons of research today on the non-reference 290x (TechPowerUp, HardOCP, Tom's, Anandtech, etc.) and am happy with the price:performance ratio compared to non-reference 780ti.
Averaging together all tested games at 1440p, the 290x does I think 93% of the 780ti, but it is about $200 cheaper here on Digital Storm. There are still some new things like Mantle on some unknowns like Freesync and Gsync. Not enough is known yet. I think the very last question before I order here soon is: Does DS include the AMD Never Settle Game Bundle, because the choose 3 games you get with it is a pretty awesome bonus. You missed G-Sync. AMD has announced a similar technology, but no word on availability. |
