Im trying to learn more and more about computers..so can anyone explain why the Intel xeon is so expensive compared to other prosessers?
I saw that a 2.3 xeon is about $400.

Xeons are socket 771 processors and is intended for server use.

Servers are online 24/7 so these processors consume less power and produce less heat.

You can also run two of these for octo core.

Server CPUS. They crunch numbers. Huge L2 caches. Whereas desktop cpus have 128k to 512k L2 caches, the Xeons have 2MB-16MB L2 caches.

Now the obligatory question... Would you see more performance out of one in a gaming PC over a "standard" CPU?
