Im trying to learn more and more about computers..so can anyone explain why the Intel xeon is so expensive compared to other prosessers?
I saw that a 2.3 xeon is about $400. |

Xeons are socket 771 processors and is intended for server use.
Servers are online 24/7 so these processors consume less power and produce less heat. You can also run two of these for octo core. Edited by skyR - 05 Feb 2008 at 7:22pm |

Server CPUS. They crunch numbers. Huge L2 caches. Whereas desktop cpus have 128k to 512k L2 caches, the Xeons have 2MB-16MB L2 caches.
