I am giving my current DS machine to my son. Before I disconnect it, I am planning to reformat my data drive after backing up all the files I need but what should I do with my SSD boot drive? I'd like it to be completely free of all my stuff but with a good Windows 10 install for him to be able to use. Should I just do a fresh Windows install? Many thanks.

What i normally do is build a bootable USB and clean install the OS and load up the needed drivers.

That's a bit above my pay-grade.

Use the cd that came with your rig, put it in your cd drive, reboot and do a fresh install. Follow the directions for install not repair.    That’ll overwrite the data.

Now that's exactly what I will do. Thanks!

Unless you have a sneaking suspicion your son is well versed in data recovery and you have highly sensitive materials on the SSD, then you should be good to go with bprat's suggestion. Big%20Smile

Ha, well in 9th Grade he hacked into his Chemistry teacher's wedding registry and added a lot of highly inappropriate gift ideas involving, let's just say, grown-up leisure pursuits. He is, however, a splendid fellow. And there is nothing on my SSD worth recovering...

Sounds like a bright fellow. Definitely smarter than I was in 9th grade. Big%20Smile

I think I flunked chemistry.        Hacking in and changing my grade would have been nice, except, no computers back then.

Seriously!? To quote john Winger in Stripes "...you are a madman. ... I want to party with you, cowboy. But the two of us together? Forget it!"
