    Posted: 07 Jul 2008 at 11:55pm
I keep getting the message that my drive can perform faster when I plug a USB 2.0 into a USB 2.0 port--why does this happen?

I have the XFX nForce 780i SLI mobo and the book says it only has USB 2.0 ports.

Please advise.

Thanks,

The 780i Motherboard can have USB ports configured in the BIOS to be 1.0 or 2.0 compatible or an auto detect (both) setting.

Mine is set to auto detect and senses my 300 Gig external USB dirve (2.0) as a 2.0 device fine. It might be worth while to check the BIOS and verify what the USB ports are set as.

The manual that came with my motherboard (also an XFX) has all the info on where in the bios screens to find the USB port setting.

That did the trick. Sure enough, the BIOS were set to 1.1. I wish I'd known that earlier when I was transferring data from my old system--but I'm glad it's all set now.

Thanks again,
