The Intel road maps have them due out at the end of the year (Q4), but this is older information and to my knowledge they haven't given any updates on it in awhile.
The idea is to halve prices, as the new NAND manufacturing is basically twice the density for the same price, so 80GB X25-V for the cost of current 40GB versions, 320GB X25-M for the cost of current 160GB models, etc. I doubt this will be immediate though, though it should hopefully rapidly effect Intel SSD prices. When G2 versions of Intel SSDs first came out they have significantly lower prices than the G1 versions (and better performance) at I think around $200-220 for the 80GB, but demand was so incredible they couldn't keep up with it and it quickly drove the price up to over $300 for them and then it slowly drifted back to the original MSRP as supply was able to catch up after a number of months. |
