Why is it that DSO has DDR2 1066MHz as a RAM option only for 2gigs and not 4 or 8?

Is it possible to still get 8gigs of Corsair Dominator RAM in a build even if it's not listed as an option, or do I have to purchase the RAM from newegg if I really want the faster chips?

Most excellent...but now I have another problem. I'm still floating back and forth it seems between my i7 and Phenom II builds and I'm wondering, purely RAM wise, which is really 'better' for the i7: 3gigs of 1866MHz or 6gigs of 1600MHz.
I'm trying to trim the i7 build down in price to see if I really want the AMD or the Intel.

well it depends which i7 you are looking at, if its not the 965 then forget the 1866, and you won't notice the difference between 1600 and 1333MHz, also the 920 and 940 are recommended to run with 1066MHz, so at 1333 you are already ahead of the game, dell sells their xps with a i7 965 with 1066MHz ram.

so in short go with 3GB of 1333 and save your money cause you won't notice the difference.

Trust me, I learned the hard way

you be better off with 6GB of 1333 then 3GB of 1600

Good to know. This is one of those areas I could never find fully reliable info so it's nice to finally have a conclusive answer.

So here's another gold nugget of a question: is DDR2 1066MHz RAM faster than DDR3 1333MHz RAM? Clown
I've seen reviews and benchmarks that compare DDR2 to 3 and 800MHz DDR2 falls right in line just under 1600MHz DDR3 in performance. But I've yet to find a comparison that figurs in the i7's new memory controller so I just can't tell.

No triple channel can read and write much faster

DDR2 read and write:

DDR3 read:

DDR3 write:

as you see even at highest performance the DDr2 can't keep up with the i7 and triple channel DDR3
