You know ive wondered about this question myself. By looking at it, the 850 seems larger which maybe means are larger airflow, but the 950 seems more intellegently designed, meaning better airflow.
Both are large enough for watercooling, and IMHO the 850 looks slightly better...but the 950 has that classic look to it and those awesome side scoops.
all and all, id say the 950 is the better case.
There is also the cooler master S as well. Its a pretty solid looking case. Too bad it isnt getting great reviews.

Quality wise 950 hands down Looks 950 I do not like the looks of the 850 Cooling 850 if you use the 4-side fan slots although the 950 is still good in that regard. Noise factor 950 is quieter. Overall the 950 wins |

Hey Bailout,
Aesthetics are going to be dependent upon personal taste, but the 950 has a well thought out design that will keep those ultra hot new graphics cards cool. While you can certainly add tons of fans with the 850 and do a great cooling job, its inefficient design requires just that... a lot more fans to do the job. More fans = more noise. If noise isn't a problem with you, then just go with whatever one you like the looks of most. If you prefer a form-follows-function approach, the 950 is superior. If you like a wide open design, the 850 would be hard to beat. (it's pretty much an open chassis design... think convertible with the top down) Cat |

850: air cooling
The open air design is impossible to match any other way. The large number of fans ensure that an adequate amount of air is forced through the heat sinks of the components inside the case. Air is a fairly good insulator (anyone own double pane windows?), so getting decent cooling performance out of it requires high volumes of air be moved. Best results will be had with high cfm, high static pressure fans such as the S-Flex fans offered with stage 3 cooling. 950: liquid cooling The 950's design is perfect to support a liquid cooled configuration. It's airflow, while slightly inferior to the 850's is still very good. This is an advantage when trying to keep internals ruuning cool that are not included in the liquid cooling loops such as: the blazing hot northbridge chip, hard drives, system RAM, and motherboard MOSFETS. The closed side will serve to reduce dust accumulating inside the case, which is one of the disadvantages of an open air design such as the one featured in the 850. |
