I have a Vanquish 7.

The Graphics Card on the invoice is a Radeon RX Vega 11 Graphics. This card is integrated with the motherboard.

I have an old XFX - Core Edition Radeon R5 230 2GB DDR3 PCI Express Graphics Card, which I bought 3 or 4 years ago.   Is this Radeon card better than the one that came with the Vanquish 7?   How do I compare them?

Now I'm not one of The Smart Guys® that hang around here, but I will add my 2¢...

Any of the last 3 generations of discreet video card will be better than the current integrated cards. Having said that, I have no idea how old your card or even it is compatible.

But, again, we can wait for The Smart Guys to chime in...

Like just about everything... just Google it!

https://technical.city/en/video/Radeon-RX-Vega-11-vs-Radeon-R5-230     (Copy/paste and go) I haven't been able to get a hyperlink to work here for awhile.

As you can see, the Vega 11 just SLAUGHTERS that card!

If you want to see how your Vega 11 graphics measure up to a variety of cards, go to your browser search window and enter Vega 11 vs 1650. When the results come up, choose the USERBENCHMARK option and go there. You'll see that the Nvidia 1650 kills, but more importantly, you'll see a dropdown arrow next to the 1650 where you can select any one of over 600 video cards/sources to compare with the Vega 11. The good folks at userbenchmark are even kind enough to give you a rough estimate of what each card might cost you to upgrade!

Cretae, thanks for the link with the compare. It helps me a lot. I can see now that the Vega 11 is way better than the R5-230. Having said that, can I still add the Radeon-R5-230 to the Vanquish 7? It's a PCI express card. The case has regular PCI slots, not express. I want to use the second card to add a second monitor for simple programs and keep the onboard GPU for games. Will the card work?

Another problem I need help with, when I pop in the Radeon-R5-230, the monitor (still connected to the GPU integrated with the motherboard) does not come on. I get nothing, not even the BIOS.   What am I doing wrong? Could the card NOT be compatible with the Vanquish 7?

As soon as you install a video card, it automatically disables the onboard video. You can't run both simultaneously AFIK.

I thought I'd be able to have two monitors by adding one GPU. From what you wrote, it appears that is not the case.   Must I add two GPUs to have two monitors?

No... one GPU can run two monitors. There are multiple ports on the GPU, simply run one to each machine.

But keep in mind you will lose your Vega 11! You've already seen what effect that would have on performance via the website. What you need is to select a modern card that suits both these needs. Use that site to compare and contrast what might be best for your budget, and you can have the best of both worlds. IDK what the AMD equivalent would be, but if I recall, the Nvidia 1650 would be ~40% stronger than the Vega 11, and would also power two monitors at once.
