Which numbers are you talking about? The temperatures or the clock speeds?

I think he's referring to how the core clock and shader clock values on the left don't match the ones on the right with the drag-able bar.

Yeah. I was referring to the clocks on the left side of the page. They are a bit less than half of slider clocks. Also- its been a little laggy playing WoW on max settings when it used to play very smooth. Not sure if that is related.

Well, thing is- I have the tool installed on XP pro and on vista and its reporting the same thing on both. One thing to note: when I was using the new Nvidia drivers, with the Physx technology enabled, it would report the same values as those in the screenshot above. However, when I disabled the Physx technology, it would report the accurate amount. Right now I am using the drivers from June which do not include the Physx technology and it is reporting the wrong settings- weird, eh. |

mark did you try Rivatuner
also check your settings for gpu with GPUz, it will tell you what you got what ever GPUz tells you, is what the setting is. Edited by DST4ME - 12 Dec 2008 at 4:37pm |

FYI- I've been reading around the internet and it appears that NVIDIA installed some throttling bullsh*t in their new drivers. As XpubuX described, the values go up when the card is under load, but remain low when not in use. Unfort- this is causing some minor stuttering in WoW. Why can't I turn it OFF!?! This makes me want to buy an ATI card.

Has anybody figured this out yet? Is it true nvidia put a power saving option in their new drivers that makes their cards throttle down under idle conditions? And if so, Is there a way around this? What is the point of EVGA Precision if it isn't going to do what it was designed for? Please help!

I am also confused. I just received my new desktop with a GTX 260 and in Precision it says the max Memory Clock Speed is 1600. Is that correct? I thougnht it's supposed to be at least 1998 MHZ, am I reading something wrong?

impulse9 -The clock speed is dual channel. Multiply your EVGA Precision number by 2 to get the actual MHz you're looking to achieve. |

Okay, I figured it out. Yes, I guessed right. Nvidia did put a power saving feature into their new drivers. It may have started in the 179.** or the 180.** drivers. -I'm not sure, but it's actually not so bad as I feared it may be. Even though the core clock frequency throttles down to 400MHz on my card, the shader clock to 799MHz and the memory clock to 297MHz, as soon as any load is detected, the GPU immediately bumps back up to my personally set specifications and remains there as long as there is a load detected and thereafter for an additional 30 seconds. I had Far Cry 2 running while I tried the following: I used Alt+Tab to minimize the game and then opened EVGA Precision to check out the clock frequencies with it running. And finally, they were where they were supposed to be, but after exactly 30 seconds of having the game minimized, it throttled back down to those very mild 2D settings. You can see on the graph how when I clicked to apply a new setting, it would jump up to where a GTX 260 should run, but then again after 30 seconds, it throttled down. So there you have it. ![]() EVGA Precision 1 EVGA Precision 2 |
