Hi! I recently bought the Lumos with ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero (Wi-Fi) (Intel Z390 Chipset) Mobo. Now the very first day we turned this on the WIFi signal was very weak - 1 or 2 bars. The Linksys Velop node was in the neighboring room, effectively across the wall. All other devices including our phones saw the maximum strength signal. I moved the node right next to the Lumos and now we have full strength signal. However the Dell computer in the other room also sees full strength signal. I think there is either sometfhhing wrong with the WiFi part of this board, or it is not a good WiFi circuit in the first place, or there are adjustments that should be done that I simply am not aware of. I hope the latter is the case, else it would be disappointing to have spent this much and get a bad WiFi performance. My config code is 2446900. What do you guys think? Best Mike. |

Did you install the antennas to the MB?

Lol...If you have a Velop WIFI Node next to the computer now, then you can forget worrying about motherboard WiFi and plug in a network cable from the mobo LAN port directly to one of the two available LAN ports on board each Velop Node...your rig will act as if you are on a regular hard line LAN but you are actually using the strong Velop WIFI Node’s antenna and WIFI net connection to get to your network. Velop is the very best Mesh Router system out there. I use Velop at my place too. |

Hockey Buck,
Yep, it is fast now, just....wonder why it had to be done. Velop is good indeed and I'd expect a normal WiFi across the wall (drywall) to see full strength. Which is what other computers do. Nomad, Antennas? It did not come with any separate antennas, nothing was enclose with it. I understood, the tower comes fully assembled with no need to go inside. If they are supposed to be inside, they should be inside, if they are missing then the question is were they supposed to be installed or not? I will look, although I am not sure what they look like and where the WiFi part is on the MoBo (it is not a separate card, I take it?). Anyone could show me a picture where the antennas are located so I could look and see if they are installed? Edited by morzh - 13 Sep 2019 at 5:14am |

On the back of the motherboard, between the lowest USB ports and the audio ports are two gold connectors for the antennas. I would expect them to be in the box of extras that they send with the computer.
Here is a link to the motherboard on the Asus site. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-XI-HERO-WI-FI/ Edited by Nomad1970 - 13 Sep 2019 at 5:19am |

Thanks Nomad,
Will check tonight. I did not bother to check it as I was under impression the CPU comes fully assembled. Best Mike. |

@Nomad1970: that was my first thought. @morzh: it is like the monitor, etc. The pc is assembled but you have to connect certain items and the wi-fi antenna (small and with smallish wires). Since you were not looking for it, you probably disregarded it. It is an easy thing to overlook. Keep us posted. |

Yep that was it. Works like a charm, sees all the neighbors' networks too. But I tried to find it in the manual.....not there. So even figuring out how to put the antenna in its base was needed to be figured out. Thanks all! Solved.

Thing is, I didn't realize there is an outside antenna.
It is not mentioned in the documentation and the other i7 desktop I have has an internal WiFi and it works very well. So it didn't occur to me that there are output connectors and an external antenna. |
