I will probably get laughed at for asking this
but can ATI HD 5970 (2gb and 4gb ones) card be put together with HD 5870 vie crossfire? I currently have 5870. The reason I want to upgrade is because I want to get a bigger display. I currently have 23in, and I want to get 27+ maybe a 30incher and I remember guys were saying that 5870 is too weak for huge displays like that. Thank you in advance!!! ![]() |

5970 is a dual card, we don't recommend those.
you are better off with a cf 5870, personally I would just go cf/sli new card that comes out next round. a 5970 is nothing but 2 x 5870 in one card, it runs hot and will get beat by 2 x 5870 single cards in cf. but to answer your question, yes you can cf 5870 with 5970, just not the best idea. |

If the res of that monitor is around 1900 x 1200 then yes, if its around 2560 x 1600, I would say you need more vram, in short each the 2GB version, otherwise some games you may need to turn off aa and maybe lower some settings, depending on the game.
Keep in mind that the 5970 2GB version is really 1GB of vram and the 4GB version is really 2GB of vram. Edited by DST4ME - 22 Apr 2011 at 7:46pm |
