So I just placed an order with Newegg and got this in the email:

Dear Valued Newegg Customer,

As a result of recent changes in the State of New York Tax Law requiring certain out-of-state retailers to collect and remit sales taxes to the State of New York, we regrettably inform you that Newegg.com must begin collecting applicable state and local sales tax for all orders shipped to New York addresses on or after June 1, 2008.

So, will DSO do the same starting from June 1st!? I am really worried about that because I am planning to place my order in June.

Intresting question. I thought the law was they had to collect sales tax if the said business does business with any company that is affilated with the state of NY. I dont see this law lasting long though, its very unconstitutional. Then again...judges rule however the hell they want reguardless of the law, especially lately.

It really annoys me though about these damn taxes though. I guess thats why i hate democrats more then republicans, but they are both becoming about the same now when it comes to robbing you of your money. Why must a goverment go around robbing people? Why cant they make a living on their own just like every other person does? Then again if the US government were try to run like a business it wouldnt last very long at all, it has a dismal customer service rating.

Another thing that irks me is that the government is 'immune' to certain lawsuits. Specificly ones where they let out murderers early and they end up killing somebody again. That family cant sue the US government for neglegence when in fact they are on solid legal ground to do it. Especially when its in the constitution as one of the very basic things the government is supposed to protect.

It's been dubbed "The Amazon Tax".

You can read the details here:

There is no chance that the "Amazon Tax" applies to DSO.

It has long been true that companies had to collect sales tax in states where they have a phyisical presence, like stores, warehouses, or distribution centers. NY has stretched the definition to include physical presence by affiliated companies. Amazon has lots of affiliates. DSO has none.

Hey, SunFighterLC: "Love it or leave it", dude!

Just kidding, actually suing the government is a little silly. You're just suing yourself. Lynching the government is a more appropriate solution, IMHO.  Shocked

That sounds somewhat reassuring, but I would like to see an official response from DSO (also sent them an email).
