I know the Win 7 Experience Index is not a good benchmark but I see something unusual that I thought I would ask about.
When running the Exp index on a 790iUltra oc'd to 4 Ghz all the scores are 7.5 and above except one. I have 4 SSD's with a Rocket Raid controller  striped . HD tune is giving me a Data transfer rate of > 700 MB/sec and yet my Index was a 6.5. Wouldn't you think it would be higher? Cry

I think the HighPoint RocketRAID might be part of the problem as most of them are crap.  Try running just a single SSD using the on-board sata ports.

I would like to try it using the sata ports but a single 256 mbyte ssd will not cut it and my backups will see it is a smaller drive and refuse to run. I thought the highpoint 3520 was a good controller. I went to 2 x 295" vid cards just to free a slot up for the controller. Do you have any suggestions on a good controller?

the areca ARC-1231ML with 2 Gb memory is old, but a decent raid card for SSD's I have had the LSI 6Gbs card for a while now, is has way higher throughput, but higher latancy, the areca is overall better.

The Intel ICH10r southbridge does a great job with 3 SSD's, 4 will exceed its max limits, but still works well, and is faster than the RAID card you have on RAID 0

Thats good info. I checked Newegg and they still have the ARC - 1231. Expensive but when you spend so much on SSD's it's worth it. I'll check out the areca site and compare it to the Highpoint site.

I do have one more question. on the ARC 1231ML. Did you pick an optimum block size ( or sector size I forget which ) in which 4 SSD's would be set up using Raid 0?
Thanks

yes, you will have tons of choices to configure, including stripe size.

Still I would try the Onboard, it is decent with RAID 0 and SSD's..

OK I can try that. I checked my Hard drive. I have 4 256 GB ssd's. From what was said above I should only use 3 SSD'S on the motherbord and set to Raid 0?

The drives already has 250 GB of used space

It depends on what brand/model they are. 4 will work fine. You still will lose all data on them switching.
If the SSD's you have do not have any built in memory, then I would not switch to an onboard RAID, but if the do have, then you will be fine

Well I "borrowed" a 1231ML from work but I tried to use my backup copy and keep getting the BSOD. I Never get to the point of installing drivers. I am using windows home server and image for dos and had no luck. Any Ideas? And if I do get it working, what would ve the best raid setting for speed?
