Sorry for the amateur question.
I have become a victim of the windows 10 infinite restart loop. Windows 10 updated and ever since I have been stuck with constant crashes and restarts. I made the mistake of UPGRADING from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (yes I know this always results in problems but I thought windows 10 would be different) So I was wondering if anyone knows what I can do to fix this? Thank you. |

probably a result of an incomplete or corrupted update. have you tried a repair?

try this: Open Settings > Update & security > Windows Update,
and select “Check for updates”. An additional update will be
downloaded and installed to your Windows 10 computer to fix the endless
reboot loop.

there is a known issue with the LAN driver and Power Management settings allowing it to wake computer. try disabling your internet connection and force reboot if you can't get it to reboot then change your settings.

Good morning and thank you. I did try checking updates. It says everything is up to date. I did try repairing windows but it crashes during the repair.
The only sleep setting that is enabled is the monitor turns off after 15 minutes. and finally, I am not sure aboutt he LAN driver/power management. I'd mess with it but I know I'd break something lol |

have you tried using the command prompt and running "sfc /scannow"?
in the search box type "cmd" right click on it and select "run as administrator" the command is "sfc /scannow" hit enter and let it run you might need to do this in safe mode if it won't complete in a normal environment. |

Sorry for the delay. So, where is the command prompt? lol. I have been looking for it off and on the past few days...>_>
I ended up just buying Windows 10..if the command prompt doesn't work i will just see about re-installing the whole thing using the disc. |

The last time I checked, Windows 10 still has a number of issues. Some of them can be fixed if you're computer savvy, but driver issues could leave you screwed until the manufacturer decides to fix them. I would stick with Windows 7 for at least another year if possible.

No I have been trying that all day. It just crashes and gives me various error messages such as kmode exception not handled..etc etc.
I was able to format the new hard drive. then i installed a full version of windows 10 got the same error. formatted again..now if i put a windows 7 disc or 10 disc in it just crashes. |

If you installed a new HDD and reinstalled the OS to it, and it still crashes, I would think the issue is either hardware or a corrupted version of Windows 10. I would , from another computer , download a new version of your OS as an iso to the DVD or ram stick. Then try a new install after booting to the ram stick or DVD. Sometimes you have to boot to bios, DEL key on boot, and select the DVD or ram stick as primary drive. The ram stick must be plugged in first for bios to see it.
I would try unplugging everything, including mouse keyboard , etc to see if it boots. A bad device or its driver can cause this. Good luck. If you get to where you can adjust power settings from Control Panel, turn OFF Fast Startup under the change settings not listed, shutdown settings area. Edited by bprat22 - 02 Jun 2016 at 4:55pm |

I'm betting a hardware issue. Could also be the motherboard. Try unplugging the rig from the wall and hold in front power button for 10-15 seconds to purge the board. Plug back in and try.
Try a CMOS reset. A default setting from Bios or pulling the battery or if your board has a cmos button. Pull the video card and see if it boots using the mobo igpu monitor port or just watching the lights, fans. Could be a coincidence that your update happened the same time as a part going bad, leading you to believe the update. It happens. Edited by bprat22 - 02 Jun 2016 at 5:19pm |

a kernal mode exception not handled bsod is typically caused by a corrupted driver. you need to start in safe mode w/networking and update the device with the bad driver. in device manager click to show hidden devices. this should reveal "other devices". once expanded right click unknown device whose drivers need to be installed or updated, choose to update the driver.

if the above doesn't resolve your problem then you need to search for the bad driver(s).
in the search box type "verifier". this opens up "Driver Verifier Manager". choose "create standard settings" click next. now choose "Automatically Select All Drivers Installed On This Computer", click finish. when asked for "restart" confirmation, click "ok". this will reboot the system and show a list of drivers that will be verified during startup. for a damaged driver the respective error note will contain a BSOD indication. you need to disable these problematic drivers, but before doing so you need to reset the verifier. type "verifier/reset" in the search box and hit enter. to uninstall the faulty driver(s), go back into device manager as before, expand the lists, and look for a device listed as "unknown" with a yellow warning sign. right click each to uninstall. |

if it's not a driver issue (after doing the above). test your memory using the administrative tools>Windows Memory Diagnostic>choose "restart now and check for problems" option. the system will restart and run the diagnostic automatically. any errors found will indicate that the memory needs to be replaced. that's it.

if it's not the memory or bad drivers, you might need to update your bios version. refer to your motherboard vendor/manual for specifics on that.
one other thing, if you are forcing any non-compatible software to run in W10, that could be causing BSOD's as well. i recommend not doing so. |

One way is to type msconfig in search , enter msconfig, and go to Boot tab. Select Safe startup.

That's what I thought. Not sure if you tried some of the suggestions, like unplugging all external devices, removing graphics card, etc.
Try unplugging all your HDD and SSD and see if it boots to Bios, which it should do when no OS drive is seen. If you get into Bios check your boot priority for the correct OS drive being #1. Also load defaults, F5 and save exit F10. If you still can't boot to Bios then you definitely have a bad part. Try just one ram stick at a time, removing the others. Then swap them. If you have a seperate sound card, remove it. |

you might have to boot directly into the bios, change the order to boot from cd drive, insert the installation disk and reboot into safe mode w/networking that way.

Thank you I have been slowly trying all of this. I am thinking it may be a failing motherboard. I just noticed that windows 10 keeps trying to update the motherboard and when it does it crashes.

Shift+F8 key should get you into safe mode.
I have had problems where my HDD/ssd was not seen but it ended up being a bad DVD drive that was messing up all the usb ports on the mobo, once disconnected everything else worked great. My advise is to disconnect everything but the gpu and and see if you can boot to windows, don't let it update and see if it crashes or not. And then we can take it from there. |
