Topic: Windows 7 Clean Install Posted: 11 Nov 2009 at 7:02pm |
Hey guys I just got my disc in the mail from Microsoft for the upgrade from 64 Bit Vista to 64 Bit Windows 7. I bought the computer from DS like 3 months ago and only have like 3 games installed by disc and 2 on steam, so im not worried about not getting those back, and I only have a few documents saved on the HD. That being the case can I just do the clean install without backing anything up since I dont really have anything on the computer? And any help with how to do the clean install would be great. Thanks alot guys.

Just curious can you drop and drag programs from the old windows hardrive partition. Also, can you delete that safely because its taking up like 50 Gigs of my hardrive lol.

I'm not familair with win7 to that extent yet, but you should be able to delete your old folder I assume.
also from what I understand, you can drag and drop files from the old folder to the new install, but I'm not a 100% sure. |

It was real easy. I just went into the advanced security Windows for the Windows.old file and changed it to where the User could delete files. After that I highlighted the entire Windows.old folder and clicked delete, sent it to recycle and it said it was too big and it said would you just like to delete and it was done. Also, I highly recommend the clean install. It was really easy took like 30 minutes all I had to do was click start pretty much and boot up and programs are ridiculously fast now. Props to Mircrosoft for making this painlessly easy.

Ya, as far as I can tell I'm able to use the programs that I dropped over into the Windows 7 partition on the hard drive before deleting it.

btw all of my drivers are updated and they all work flawlessly as well. I also haven't experienced any problems with Nvidia drivers for Windows 7 that I have seen online as well. So all in all I am very pleased...Now I just need to get a SSD so that I can get the full 7.9 on Windows Experience, damn HHD is holding me down at 5.9!!!

I have a question: Do I need to remove me overclock when doing a clean install of windows 7? Or does it not matter because it's in the BIOS?

to be save just save your oc profile in bios and thebn set bios to default.
once at default you no longer have the oc. sometimes you install with oc and its all fine, and sometimes all hell breaks lose, its recommended that we install without oc. |

Ive never done anything in the bios before. I have already installed windows 7. Is their a way to test if it's stable? It seems to be.
I don't have anything installed really yet. So do you think I should now do as you suggested and reinstall windows 7? Edited by AndydViking - 21 Nov 2009 at 8:15pm |

I think you are fine, sometime there can be corruption, but if you have it installed and its running fine you should be good to go.

I abandoned the plan. I could not remove the oc. I need to resarch this a bit. I saved the settings in the bios then I went to restor it to defaults and it didnt seem to do much. The only thing it did was to post with the MSI logo after that. According to CPU speed program my overclock was still there. So I went back and put it on it's origional settings.
What is an accurate and easy way to see if I have disabled my overclock?

you can check your cpu speed in the bios or just run CPU-z with the pc under load and see what it says.

I see now why I could not loose the overclock. It was done with the easy overclocking switch feature which takes it to 166mhz it has a multiplier of 20 thus my 3.3ghz overclock. So I need to research this just a bit more but it looks like it was overclocked using this feature.
