Topic: Windows 7 Fresh Install Posted: 26 Oct 2009 at 1:25pm |
I used my upgrade coupon I received from Digital Storm and received my 64 bit upgrade version of Windows 7. I haven't tried it yet but I believe I can do a fresh install with the upgrade version. I prefer to do a fresh install.
My question/concern is this. If I do a fresh install, will I lose any of the custom settings (overclocking etc..) on my DS? I don't want to lose any of the performance which is the reason I purchased from PC. Thanks William |

few things:
1. no you won't lose any bios settings, like your oc. 2. if at anytime you do lose your oc settings, you call DS back and they will help you oc it back to what it was, its part of your warranty. 3. save your settings in the bios to a bios profile, that way you will have the settings saved. 4. after you save the oc profile, then set bios to default and do a fresh install. 5. after fresh install then enable the saved bios profile that has the oc settings. Whats the downside of just running the upgrade to Windows 7? I'd prefer not to do a complete fresh install if the benefits aren't noticible. I would think by now, they have the process working pretty well (maybe I give Microsoft too much credit).
Is there a good walkthrough for doing a fresh install anywhere? I am sure I could figure it out but some of the little steps people mention I would probably mess up on or forget, like savng the bios to keep the OC setting (is that necessary?).

well if you want to keep your oc settings then saving the profile in the bios is necessary and I highly recommend it.
down side of upgrade can be bugs or corruption down the road, fresh install will not have such problems. go here for fresh install walk through |

I did a fresh install yesterday without issue. Windows 7 actually saved my old windows folder with the new install. it saves it under windows.old for you when you do a fresh install.
I didn't lose any OC settings from DS with a fresh install. |

Where does it put the old windows folder? Any particular reason you need to keep it?

Vista does the same thing (saving Windows.old) folder. Just double click your C drive icon and you'll see it there. I took everything I needed from it and deleted the folder.

Hi,
How do I save my BIOS settings to a BIOS profile? Also, how is the BIOS profile reloaded? Thanks! Paul |

It is an EVGA X58 SLI. I think I just found it... It was under Frequency/Voltage Control. Do you know if this saves every setting in the BIOS or does it just save the settings on the Frequency/Voltage Control page?
