Hi Folks- You have all been so helpful in the past,
I thought I'd start here to seek some advice.

My DS system still doing everything I ask of it, and
probably would do more, that's not the problem. My father, close to 83, has taken to computers very well.
Recently, while I had his 2 desk tops running well, he
decided to "downsize" to a new laptop. He did not buy
a DS, but a very good Toshiba with an i7 processor and
good bells and whistles. (I've had 3 Toshiba's now and
they have performed almost as well as my DS desktop)

In any case, I think Windows 7 has gone crazy on him. Granted neither him nor I (doing long distance telephone
support) are very familiar with W7, but after reading through the forum I was wondering if there are any bugs I should be aware of. Given the glowing reports in the media it seems like W7 should be rock solid, but among other things programs are seeming to disappear, and windows explorer seems not to be letting him see what's there or not there.

I've had him mal ware and av scan the computer with updated software and nothing came up.

Any ideas, help, suggestions would be appreciated.
Again, you folks have been very very helpful and I really trust your advice, and this would be a great help. I can't spend all day on the phone with Dad as much as I'd like to, I need to make some more money to buy my next DS rig.

Thanks
Gary

its not too likely we could do much, but its possible... first we will need a much more thorough expliniation of what exactly is happening..
there are a lot of ways a computer can "go crazy"

yes, windows 7 is still a little bit nuts. internet browsers will occasionally freak out, and the operating system will sometimes assume that the system needs a startup repair, etc. oh, and the touchscreen drivers are also buggy, my touchscreen will go crazy sometimes and start clicking all over the place by itself.

So far I haven't had any major glitches with Win 7 64Bit. I had to do a complete reinstall a few months ago.....but that was due to my own inattention and experimenting with questionable software....otherwise the OS has been performing flawlessly. I do comply with a strict maintenance regimen though which helps with managing the system and keeping junk to a minimum.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your suggestions. Part of my problem is that I'm 2,000 miles away and trying to diagnose this over the phone. I installed everything, and it all seemed to be working well, again however, that was my first encounter with W7. Then I got this panic call from Dad that things were gone.

At this point, we've decide he should go back to his desktop (into which I did a clean install of XP, and updated programs and drivers), and when I get back to
his place in a week or two I'll take another look at it and see what I can figure out. Human error is not out of the possibility.

But again, thanks for all of your suggestions. I'll check back when I can actually put my hands on the machine and do a little digging around. DS and the DS forum are really a great feature.
