Why do you want Windows 7 over Windows 8? |

I lot of people prefer it for cosmetic/utility reasons. Others, for compatibility purposes. |

I know the various reasons people prefer 7, but I'm always keen to understand the reasoning in specific cases when the issue crops up. There seems to be a lot of mis-information about 8 which nearly made me stay with 7 (would have been a big mistake for me). So I guess I just like to make sure people have actually thought through their reason to want 7, and aren't just revolting from the uproar over things like the Win 8 Metro interface.

I know for myself I bought a system with windows 8 on it and hated the interface a ton. I did not want to install a third party "fix" that could be broken at any time by an update from MS.
So after disliking the experience of using Windows 8 for a few months I looked around for a system that came with windows 7. I was lucky that DS had the option with their Vanquish line which was right around my price point I wanted to spend. To be honest had they not offered windows 7 I would never have bought the computer. I liked everything I read about DS but windows 8 would have still been a deal breaker. I hope the change to windows 8 works out well for them. Although I will admit I doubt I would advice anyone I know to buy a Vanquish system since it now comes with windows 8. I feel bad that it is how I feel and the 8.1 update does nothing to change my dislike with the OS since they have not added back the start button for real yet. Maybe at some point MS will cave in all the way. |

I'm sure I read a rumor that MS will cave in all the way for 8.2.
Take your point about a third party app. I do use Start8 and it's perfect. Just like Windows 7 functionality now. But above all else, the deal clincher for me was the big performance improvements in general, and specific massive improvements with game performance. Personally I do feel that 8 is worth having going forward. |

I'm using Windows 8.1 with no third-party modifications at the moment. The first few days were rough, but after I got used to it I think I'm actually starting to prefer it.
