I've not been getting the greatest online gaming performance on a computer linked to a wireless G router. I'm not sure whether G is just insufficient or whether it is due to thick walls in my house. Would N likely give me better performance? I often get 5 second moments of stuttering (packet loss?) in games.

Wireless N tends to have better reception. It might be worth upgrading.

Two advantages of Draft-N are the strength of signal - it can go farther and through more things, and that it isn't on the 3.2Ghz spectrum like a lot of other wireless devices.

Well they say to place your wireless modem on the top floor because the signal goes down and out, not up. If your using one computer, then just put the modem near the computer. It can also be the computer. My dads dino computer has wireless, and it runs at 55mbs. My friend has the same speed but a better computer. His is lightning fast and the dino...well its really slow. I also read that you can OC your wireless router. Im sure you can find more on the web.

Wasn't there a Wi-Fi guide under "Performance Tweaks" at the very top of the DS forums?

http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=520  Here it is lol.

I'm directly connected so I don't have any experience in improving wireless connections.  (Only preventing it from dieing lol)

Since this is slightly related.  How do you honestly go about "upgrading" your internet anyway?  Even if you find an internet speed that is suitable to your tastes, if you go to their site, type in your address etc, and they go "sorry there's no available service plans etc in your area at the moment!"

I'm also confused why they give numbers like 50 mbps when clearly it's gonna be lower than that.

I did several speed tests when I switched from Wireless-G to Wireless-N.

Upgrading to N had absolutely no effect on Internet speed. That's not surprising, because both wireless technologies vastly outpace the speed of an Internet connection. The bottleneck is still your cable or DSL modem.

However, switching to N will generally improve your reception, so it might improve your Internet speed if you have reception problems. Switching to N will also greatly speed up computer-to-computer data transfers for computers that are local to your network.
