Hey guys, I've been lurking around the DS site for a little over a week now, doing research for a new system. I finally got the courage to post.
What I need it for: Photoshop, Flash, and After Effects. Probably no gaming. I design/develop sites, ads, games and online apps. Price range: $4000 (can go slightly higher in the right situation) No monitors, I currently have 2 of them. Short Backstory: I've burned through 2 Dell 9100 XPS (fully upgraded) machines in the past year. They're sending me my 3rd replacement as I type this. I'm absolutely done with them and I'll probably hand the this 3rd to my wife or throw it off a bridge. I'm not sure if I'm THAT rough on my systems or if it was severely underpowered, but I'm moving on. Current Config: id=608249 Basically, it's the C40 base model, with a swapped SSD drive for the OS. I originally liked the base setup. My base knowledge: I'm knowledgeable to a point. I'm usually so busy with work that, sadly, I don't have time to tinker with my systems much. My main questions are: I've been hearing a lot about the new Sandy Bridge-E i7 processors coming out (supposedly) next month -- With that being said and what I need my computer for, will I see a significant boost on speed against my configuration, as is? Obviously, it will be faster I just want to see if it will be noticeable for what I need it for. Also, I've heard the top processor for that set will be around $1000 -- with that price point, will I be over-budget with the add-ons I'll have to tack on? I'm 100% buying a DS system. I just need to figure out if holding out for the new i7's will be worth the wait, from a price-to-speed standpoint -- or if I should add/drop anything to my current configuration. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

the 980x is close to $1000 itself so the price is not gonna be that different.
I would defiantly wait for for the new platform. for psu for reliability adn quality go with the hx series, if you gonna single gpu just go with 750w hx, if dual gpu then go with 1050hx. for ssd intel 320 has the best track record as far as reliability goes. |

Ok. awesome. I was on the fence to wait, I'll probably take your advice.
I'll also go with the 750w and intel 320 too. I was actually debating both. From previous experiences, does DS usually add components like the new platform into the mix as soon as they're released or is there any type of extended wait for compatibility checks, testing or anything like that -- before they're added into builds? |

all the builders and etc get engineering samples few months before hand, they get to test them and etc, but are not allowed to talk about it till release date, from past experiences, as soon as Intel and mobo makers make the parts available to builders, DS has them ready to go, of course they still have to build and test your system.
