To the DSO guys and customers, is there much of a difference between these two cards? The Fatal1ty has the X-RAM feature, which is missing on the Extreme. I have the Xtreme card. Would upgrading to the Fatal1ty card be worth the (performance) effort?

Based on everything I have read, there is no difference in performance between the two cards in any application that does not support X-RAM. There's no difference in frequency response, no difference in signal to noise, and no difference in support for EAX. The load on your CPU is reduced with *any* sound card, which results in increased performance. There are a limited number of apps out there that support the X-RAM feature, and in those cases you're looking  at  a 1-2 FPS gain.

You'd be paying for the remote, and breakout box primariliy, not a huge leap in performance. The X-FI EG ed. is an awesome sound card.

The Fatality also features the I/O switch that the xtremegamer does not. Other than that, I would say the xtremegamer is recommended for gaming. With the Fatality only seeing enhanced performance with the games that support X-RAM.

Thanks guys, I believe I will just keep the current sound card then (X-FI Xtreme). Sounds like both cards are great. Thank you for your input! Its just amazing how much a good gaming sound card can add to the immersiveness' of gaming. I'm pulling out all my old games and its kinda like playing them  for the first time in some cases. Republic Commando sounds unbelievably better with a good soundcard. That and the FPS boost doesn't hurt.

Republic Commando is the ONLY game I have not been able to run on my new system. There's something about it that keeps its from loading. I get a strage error when it attempts to load. I have loaded the latest patch, but to no avail. Whata bummer! I take it it loads ok for you? I'm really bummed, as I like this game.

However, Quake 4 sounds like a different game with the new sound card.  Wow!
