I was doing some research and am I correct when I say that the these 2 boards can use ddr3? And if so why doesnt DSO have an option in their config page for the 2 rams. I should be able to pick either ddr2 or ddr3.

The ASUS Maximus & Rampage Formula are both DDR2 boards.
If you want to configure a computer with DDR3, select Catagory 4 - 950Si. Digital Storm offers 3 DDR3 motherboards. |

yes, X48 is the chipset of choice for DDR3.
The 950Si config has boards for DDR3 while the 850Si has boards for DDR2. The memory controller on the X38 and X48 allows manufacturers to either make a DDR2 or DDR3 or hybrid board. Manufacturers like to make money, it's why most boards are DDR2. No one is going to buy a $300 motherboard and then go buy $1000 ram. 4gb of DDR3 1600mhz = ~$400 4gb of DDR2 800mhz = ~$70 seriously... |

So what your saying is that if I pick either a x38 or x 48 and put in ddr2 for right now, I can change the ram to ddr3 someday. Kinda like an upgrade? If so I think this is pretty much future proof.

Digital Storm only offers DDR2 or DDR3 boards. They have no hybrid boards on their config page so you will have to call them...
