Hey all,
Just trying to find straight answers. What are the stock bios settings for the Asus Rampage IV with 3960X and 32GB of corsair vengeance quad channel memory? I can't get past the boot screen where it says to setup bios. Every time I do, it says overclocking failed. Any insight? |

Go to bios and set it to default or reset cmos.
you have a switch in the back for reseting cmos. |

Kelly Wilkins? Haven't heard from you in awhile. How's Texas?
Try increasing VTT, and try a small increase in VCCSA. |

Texas is superb!
Well here's my situation. I have: Asus Rampage IV Extreme Intel 3690X 32GB (2x CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9) Corsair Quad Channel DDR3 1600 Corsair H100 Corsair HX1050 Corsair Obsidian 800D Corsair Force GT 120GB I cannot get passed the "setup bios" or "overclock failed" screen or it fails to post with 01 on the debug when I have all 8 modules in. But when I put in any 4, it posts fine. In fact, I have it oc'd to 4.9 and ran Aida64 with the Heaven Dx11 stress test all night without errors. But like I said, once I stick in 8, boom. nothing. So, I am just trying to find that voltage setting that seems to work, What do you use? I have tried upping the VTT and VCCSA as well as the memory to 1.65. I have tried 1.2 for the VTT and VCCSA. Sounds like a weak IMC, a bad stick of RAM, or possibly a defective slot.
Load defaults again and try this: Start with 4 and add 1 at a time to see which causes it. Once you reach a slot/stick that causes it, try another slot, then try another stick. If a different slot has the same issue, then it's the stick. If a different slot is fine, then it's most likely the slot, try another stick that you know works to see what happens. If the result is the same, looks like your board might have a defective slot. Another to try would be to take the 4 sticks in the slots you know work, and shift them over to the other set of slots to see if the same thing occurs. I'm not sure if this platform is like x58 in where it wont post unless the first set is populated, let me know if it is. |

I have tried everything. I have tried 4 at a time, both kits on their own and I can get to desktop and to 5.2 without NO problem. It is just when I use all 8. I have tried all 4 (1 kit at a time) in each black and red. No probs. it isn't the board nor the memory. Just can't find the sweet spot on voltages. So. I am trying to figure out what you guys use so I have a starting point.
this isn't my first rodeo, cowboy ;) |

A multimeter would help troubleshoot voltages if you have one.
Have you tried just 7 sticks to see if you are able to get to 4.9-5.2GHz and POST/boot successfully?

OK I figured out the issue. They had to release a new bios that supported the 8 dimms. Once I updated to the 0082 bios, everything works fine.

OK, so I found out by trial/error that the first run of motherboards were not working with all 8 dimms populated. I updated the bios and that worked... for a day... and then started getting blue screens. So I sucked it up and ordered a new board this past weekend and it was the second revision or something like that.. anyway, 8 dimms out of the box without error. So, make sure that if you sell these Rampage IV Extreme boards that they can run with the 8 dimms populated.
Thanks again for your help and will be ordering my wife's pc here in the next few months!!! |
