Topic: xm11 battery life? Posted: 10 Jul 2012 at 1:10pm |
Im looking at getting an ultra-portable laptop, that I will still be able to play a few games on here and there. My current laptop, a Sony Vaio F series, has a battery life of ~1.5 hours when just web surfing/light multitasking, so I'm constantly stuck carrying around my charger.
Im thinking of buying the xm11 level 3 (i7 + 120gb ssd), but I would like to get a feel for the typical battery life it has. Im hoping that it has the kind of battery life that I can use it for work without having to lug a charger around. Thanks in advance for the help. |

Thanks for the quick responses
2-3 hrs even if Im just using web browser/editing documents? Thats a bummer, I was really hoping I could justify getting this little beast of a machine. Are there larger batteries that would fit in that case? |

well if youre lucky you may squeeze additional , but that's when sounds are off and it auto dims to reserve battery and you have no usb plugged in. and switch to lowest resolution (if optional) with bluetooth/wifi off
I heard the Hybrid graphic helps save battery but it doesn't make a hours of difference. as long as the CPU is working the battery is being drained. so average use of web browsing/document/file editing still drains the memory and cpu usage. they do have similar as extended batteries, it's portable chargers. uses for ipads/cellphones/laptops and includes adapters forgot what they're called lol but not cheap Edited by Kyu - 10 Jul 2012 at 1:31pm |

any idea of the physical size of the power supply for the xm11?
my current laptop + charger is about 12 pounds to carry around, which is a pain. with the xm11 being smaller and lighter, carrying around a power supply might not be as much of an annoyance. |

well i have an idea of how much it may weigh, i have a m11x by AW which is roughly the same and it weighs about 4lbs give or take and add the brick you're looking at less than 7lbs total, not sure how big the brick is for xm11
either way you're looking at half of it. what I do is I have an brick at work and a brick at home 2 actually. just happened that way when owning 3 laptops lol. and so I just carry the laptop mobile and plug it in when ever i need to from work/home might be a good way to go, bricks shouldnt cost more than 60 bucks |

If you want to extend the battery life, switch to the integrated graphics, and dim the screen brightness. You might be able to extend it by 25-ish percent.

if it's a sony, it might not be. sony has their own unique plug atleast one of my vaio did. how ever you might luck out on it. I believe these are Clevo's which are pretty universal. not 100% sure but my gf's Vaio worked on my sager so best bet would be call them for quicker answers sony and ds both if you check it should state what type of plug size it is, from there on it'll be easier to guess or you can always check Sony's parts for re-order lost/damaged they should state what size it is for that specific model and then you'll be able to find out if it's the same for DS's which im pretty sure it's a clevo but with different shell Edited by Kyu - 10 Jul 2012 at 2:06pm |

yeah the xm11 is the same as the clevo, and i just checked and the psus are different :(
you think i could order a second psu straight from DS with the laptop? would make my life way easier if i could get everything i needed at once, and i would rather buy from DS than elsewhere Edited by redsoxfanatic - 10 Jul 2012 at 2:16pm |

Yup ! I don't see why not Give them a ring, DS is really customer friendly, hell they even give out tours of their place. They probably will not have any problems ordering a 2nd brick for you, and that at a good price too |

We can definitely sell you an extra battery for around $80 I believe. The laptop doesn't have a ton of battery life due to it's CPU and graphics card.

ok, thanks for all the help guys.
one last question if anyone knows: how is the fan noise and heat when not gaming? my current laptop fan has 1 speed, and its freaking loud, and runs pretty hot (idle @ 65-70 C) which seems to be above average even for laptops. ill be even more willing to sacrifice battery power if it runs quiet |
